Fortes is a fairly rare family name in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries (Spanish pronunciation: FOR-tes, Portuguese pronunciation: FOR-cheesse). Famous Fortes include:
- Corsino Fortes (b. 1933), a Cape Verdean poet
- Joe Fortes (d. 1923), a Vancouver, Canada lifeguard.
- Meyer Fortes (1906-1983), a South African-born anthropologist.
