Formula BMW Asia

Formula BMW Asia is an open wheel racing series based in Asia whose mission is to develop talented young drivers and introduce them to auto racing using full-size cars. The series is organized by Motorsport Asia Ltd as part of the Asian Festival of Speed. The current champion is New Zealander Earl Bamber.
Formula BMW Asia was first organized in 2003 to replace the aging Asian Formula 2000 series. It has sister series' in the United Kingdom, Germany & USA. All four series use the Formula BMW FB02 race car. This formula includes a composite monocoque chassis and a 1.2L BMW K1200RS motorcycle engine. Top speed is around 140mph.
BMW Motorsport annually provides a scholarship of US$50,000 per driver for 5 young drivers to race in the series, after they have gone through a scholarship selection process.
Participants in Formula BMW Asia are also eligible to race in the Formula BMW World Final held annually since 2005.
The Formula BMW Asia series currently races at Sepang, Beijing, Bira (near Pattaya, Thailand), Sentul, Shanghai and Zhuhai.
The Formula BMW Asia series has supported the Malaysian Grand Prix, Bahrain Grand Prix and the Chinese Grand Prix since its inception.
