Forget Yourself is an album released by Australian progressive rock band The Church in 2003 (see 2003 in music).
The album was made entirely at drummer Tim Powles' Spacejunk studios in Australia and features many straight-to-tape recordings, making it an album of few overdubs. The result was widely praised as a fresh and appealing mixture of The Church's many sonic textures, primarily the always masterful interplay of Marty Willson-Piper and Peter Koppes' guitar layering.[citation needed]
In fact, on many tracks the band switch instruments, such as Powles on guitar for the moody opener "Sealine" and Willson-Piper on drums for "Maya."
The album was lauded by fans and critics alike as a vital new chapter in the evolution of The Church as they maintain one of their most prolific periods of output since the early 1980s.[citation needed]
The United States release of the album was delayed for over three months from the Australian release, and as an apology for this delay, the U.S. version of includes a bonus disc with three exlusive tracks.
The album has also recently been re-released in a limited edition 5.1 surround version said to improve on the original muddiness of the original's sound recording.[citation needed]
