Forestville, New York

Forestville is a village in Chautauqua County, New York, USA. The population was 770 at the 2000 census.
The Village of Forestville is within the Town of Hanover and in the northeast part of the county.
The Strawberry Festival is in June.

The community began in 1808 as "Walnut Falls," but the name was changed to "Forestville" in 1820. The Village of Forestville was incorporated in 1848.

Forestville is located at GR1.
(42.471658, -79.174028)According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²), all land.
New York State Route 39, passes (east-west) through the village as its main street and intersects county routes 85, 87, and 89. Walnut Creek is joined by Tupper Creek north of the village and flows northward to Lake Erie.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 770 people, 304 households, and 209 families residing in the village. The population density was 303.4/km² (787.9/mi²). There were 324 housing units at an average density of 127.7/km² (331.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.45% White, 0.26% African American, 1.04% Native American, 1.43% from other races, and 1.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.47% of the population.
There were 304 households out of which 30.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.0% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.3% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the village the population was spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 104.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.9 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $32,778, and the median income for a family was $41,042. Males had a median income of $32,159 versus $25,139 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,993. About 4.8% of families and 10.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.0% of those under age 18 and 18.1% of those age 65 or over.
