Fordham (Metro-North station)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fordham Metro-North Railroad station serves the residents of the Fordham neighborhood of the Bronx, New York via the Harlem Line and New Haven Line. It is 8.9 miles (14.3 km) from Grand Central Terminal. The platforms are situated just below street level and feature two expanded platforms that serve eight cars each, on the outer tracks. The station building sits above the tracks on the Fordham Road overpass, and still bears the name New York Central Railroad on its facade. This station is among the busiest in the Metro-North system.

[edit] Service

[edit] Harlem Line

Most service is provided by Grand Central Terminal to North White Plains locals. These trains run at least approximately every half-hour on weekdays and Saturdays, and hourly on Sundays. During the reverse peak (outbound from GCT mornings and inbound evenings), however, through trains to and from Southeast also serve this station. On weekends, a few trains direct to Southeast outbound mornings and inbound evenings stop here as well.

[edit] New Haven Line

New Haven Line Trains can not be used for intermediate travel between Grand Central and Fordham. Most service is provided by Grand Central Terminal to Stamford locals. These trains run at least approximately every half-hour, on weekdays and Saturdays, and hourly on Sundays. A few locals to and from Harrison stop here throughout the day on weekdays. Reverse peak through trains to and from New Haven also serve this station seven days a week.

[edit] Neighborhood

This station is situated directly west of the Fordham University campus. It is part of the Fordham Plaza complex which is served by several Bronx and Westchester bus routes. The area is a commercial hub with many shops, especially along Fordham Road going west (known as "Fordham Center"). A sign above the exit steps from the station to the street notes that subway B/D service and 2/5 service are each six blocks to the west and east, respectively---though the 2/5 Pelham Parkway station is actually nearly a mile away.

This station is located in the Zone 2 Metro-North fare zone.
