Forbes Air Force Base

Forbes Air Force Base was Strategic Air Command airfield located five miles south of Topeka, Kansas that was transferred to the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority and now is known as Forbes Field.
It was named for Major Daniel Forbes, a Air Force pilot from Kansas who was killed in a crash of the Northrop YB-49.
The 12,800 foot by 200 foot runway, and other runways, ramps and facilities needed by the 190th Air Refueling Wing of the Kansas Air National Guard are maintained by the Federal Government.
