At Microsoft's Financial Analyst Meeting on 27 July 2006, Chief Research and Strategy Officer Craig Mundie demonstrated FonePlus, a smartphone device that connects to a TV for basic productivity and Internet operations. The device had previously been demonstrated on 18 July 2006 by Hugh Teegan, a Mobile Devices architect at Microsoft focusing on emerging markets[1].
Microsoft has suffered some negative press for failing to respond to the $100 laptop project.
