[edit] Symbols used by Folk Nation
Symbols used by Folk Nation gangs include a six pointed star (a Star of David), adopted in honor of deceased leader 'King' David Barksdale who died on September 2, 1974 of a kidney failure as a result of receiving bullet wounds from an encounter with a rival gang five and a half years previously. It is also common for members of Folk Nation gangs to wear caps tilted to the right. This is in contrast to People Nation gangs, which wear similar clothing on the left side of their body. Folk Nation members use the colors black, blue, and white, in that order to represent their ranking in the gang. If a folk nation member is wearing a black bandana he has received his first ranking by knocking out a rival gang member in 2 or less hits. He is referred to as a baby gangster because he has never shot, stabbed, or in any other way hospitalized a rival gangster. Members flying blue bandanas are called G's. They have hospitalized a rival gang member, earning respect from his captain or other superiors. Members wearing White bandanas are called O.G.'s. This means original gangster and once they have received that title there is no way to get out of the gang except by death. They earn the white bandana by killing one or more rival gang members.
[edit] Folk Nation Infiltrates US Military?
In March of 2005, KFOX TV of El Paso, Texas (a hub of Folk Nation activity) reported that Folk Nation members were actively being encouraged to join the U.S. Military. The report quoted Jeremy Francis, an FBI special agent, as saying that the gang "will hand pick them, ask them to keep their record clear so that they can enlist in the military and then once they're in the military, they want them to try and gain access to weapons and explosives and basically try to filter that back to the street level.
