Flying Childers Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Flying Childers Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for two-year-old Thoroughbreds run over a distance of 5 furlongs (1,006 metres) at Doncaster Racecourse during the St Leger meeting in September.
It is named after the 18th century racehorse Flying Childers, a son of the Darley Arabian bred at Cantley Hall in Doncaster, who is often cited as the first truly great racehorse in the history of Thoroughbreds.
It was first run in 1967. From 1967 to 1973 it was run as the Norfolk Stakes, but when the New Stakes at Royal Ascot took that title it was renamed the Flying Childers Stakes.
