"Fly" is a pop rock song recorded by Hilary Duff for her self-titled third album Hilary Duff (2004). It was released as the album's first single single in 2004 (see 2004 in music) in the United States, and Mushroom Records released the single outside the U.S. on January 11, 2005 (see 2005 in music). It was not released in the UK until 2006, where it was released as the second single from Duff's compilation album Most Wanted (2005). The song's protagonist encourages listeners to "let go of your yesterday" and "reach for something when there's nothing left". Duff has described it as "an uplifting song in the face of all the negativity going around these days. It's about how people are scared to open up and show who they are inside because they're afraid of what others are going to say".[1]

The single failed to chart on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and received limited airplay on pop radio, peaking outside the top twenty on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream chart. It reached the top ten in Ireland, the top twenty in the UK and the forty in Australia, the Netherlands and New Zealand. The single's video, directed by Chris Applebaum, combined backstage footage with shots of Duff performing the song. It was filmed in Worcester, Massachusetts[2] and reached number one on MTV's TRL countdown. "Fly" was used as the theme song for the film Raise Your Voice, in which Duff starred.

In 2005 John Shanks won a Grammy Award for "Producer of the Year, Non-Classical", in part for his work on "Fly".[3]
