Region 9 is one of the 10 regions that New York City's public school system is divided into. The current superintendent is Peter Heaney, Jr. The stated activities and goals on the regional level center on the professional development of teachers in the region's schools - preparing them to teach to the city's standards and to dialogue effectively with students. The region also provides support and information to parents, in addition to that provided at the district level. As with all regions in New York City, Region 9 sends one parent representative, selected by PTA officers for a two-year-term, to the Citywide High School Council.
