Floris Elementary School, located in Herndon, Virginia is the oldest school in Fairfax County, Virginia.It is in the School District of FCPS (Fairfax County Public Schools) Established in 1876, it first started as a school for the Colored.
The original building still exists and is used as a daycare facility for preschoolers.
In November 2004, Floris ES had its rededication as it renovated the entire school after a roof collapse in 2003 due to packs of snow, rain, and ice.
Students attend Rachel Carson Middle School and Westfield High School.
The current principal is Karen Siple, who has been principal since the 2002-2003 School Year; and the current assistant principal is Richard Rosser, who has been assistant principal since the 2004-2005 School Year. Floris Elementary has business partnerships with EDS, Baja Fresh, and National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation. This school offers a Foreign Language Partial-Immersion Program in Japanese. It also offers ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). This school also has a Weatherbug Station bringing live weather information from the school. In addition, Floris has an ongoing Gifted and Talented program, in which children participate in challenging and exciting activites. One of these activites is Night of the Notables, a program where students research a "notable" in history. For two years, Floris has had an annual basketball game with Navy Elementary School. This game would comprise of three games:
- 1st- Floris Teachers vs. Navy Teachers
- 2nd- Floris 6th Grade Girls vs. Navy 6th Grade Girls
- 3rd- Floris 6th Grade Boys vs. Navy 6th Grade Boys
