Florida State Road 808
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Locally known as Glades Road, State Road 808 is currently a seven-mile-long east-west divided highway serving southern Palm Beach County, Florida. Its present western terminus is an intersection with US 441 (SR 7) near Boca West; its eastern terminus is an intersection with Federal Highway (U.S. Route 1-SR 5) in Boca Raton.
State Road 808 is a major commuter route connecting the four major north-south arteries of Palm Beach County: Interstate 95/SR 9, Florida's Turnpike/SR 91, US 1/SR 5, and US 441/SR 7. In addition, it serves as a terminus for two other State Roads (SR 845 and SR 809). Near the eastern terminus of SR 808 are the main campus of Florida Atlantic University and the runways of Boca Raton Airport (the terminal of which can be accessed via Northwest Spanish River Boulevard (SR 800) 1.2 miles to the north of SR 808).
[edit] Planned extension into Palm Beach County
According to maps published by Fort Lauderdale-based Dolph Maps in 2003, an extension of University Drive into Palm Beach County has been proposed. Under the proposal, the north-south highway will cross Loxahatchee Road (Broward County Road 827, former SR 827) and eventually connect with Glades Road and SR 808. It remains to be seen if the proposal comes into fruition, and when/if it does, whether the State Road 817 designation would be extended to the western end of SR 808, SR 808 extended southward to connect with SR 817, if both State Roads would be “covered” by a single number (this would not be unprecedented: see State Road 823 and 955 in Miami-Dade County), or if only a Palm Beach County Road designation (most likely Palm Beach County Road 808) would be applied.
