Florida State Road 742
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A six-mile-long east-west street serving Pensacola, State Road 742 is both a commuter road and a bypass route that also provides access (via Ninth Avenue/SR 289 and Airport Boulevard/SR 750) for motorists to Pensacola Regional Airport. Locally known as Burgess Road and Creighton Boulevard, SR 742 stays within a mile south of Interstate 10 (SR 8) from the State Road's western terminus at US 29-SR 95 near Ensley to SR 742's eastern terminus at US 90 in Pensacola.
Prior to the mid 1990s, the highway sported State Road 176 signs. The designation was changed by Florida Department of Transportation to SR 742 when it added Fairfield Avenue west of SR 295, Airport Boulevard, and Texar Drive as State Roads 727, 750, and 752, despite the current grid system of numbering Florida State Roads would indicate that these highway should receive 2## numbers (the SR 7## numbers are most commonly found near Sarasota or Stuart, both cities more than 400 miles from Pensacola).
