Floodlights (sport)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Floodlights are large, powerful lights used to illuminate a field or pitch during low-light conditions whilst a sports event is being held. In the top tiers of most football leagues it is a requirement for football stadiums to have them. Some sports grounds which do not have permanent floodlights installed may make use of portable temporary ones instead.
One of the main attractions of having floodlights is that sports events can be held during the evening, making them more accessible to spectators. A particular example of this would be events that take place during the week, but not during the day, when most spectators would be at work or school.
One of the disadvantages of having floodlights is that it creates light pollution.
