Flight of Valor

Flight of Valor is a musical piece written by James Swearingen as a memorial for the victims of United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Somerset County, Pennsylvania during the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The song begins with a light tune played on the clarinet, which is later joined by the trumpets and the flutes. The tune goes into a fanfare which fades into the middle and lower woodwinds playing the hymn, "It Is Well with My Soul" by Philip Bliss and Horatio Spafford. The brass later join in the hymn, but the hymn is interrupted with a quick inner portion, that exemplifies the period of time when the victims of United Airlines Flight 93 overtook the plane and crashed it to the ground. After the quick tempo is over there's a pause, which is finally broken by the low brass playing a mourning tune. A flute soloist enters on top of the mourning music with the song "It is Well With My Soul." After the first few notes, the flute solo is joined by clarinets and then by brass. The song then once again reaches a climactic fanfare of "It Is Well" until the end.
