Fleming
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Fleming is an inhabitant of Flanders, see Flemings.
"Fleming" is a quite common surname in English-speaking countries. Having it indicates that the ancestors of a person so named may have at some past time immigrated from Flanders - though it might have happened long enough in the past that no memory of it, except for the name, is retained in the family concerned. (There were extensive ties between England and Flanders already in the Middle Ages, with numerous Flemings arriving in England as merchants or mercenaries and some staying on.) Fleming is also the name of a Swedish noble family of Finnish origin.
