[edit] New messages!

See, not so lonley now. -- Dbroadwell 01:16, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Heh, I knew that would provoke someone :) Hmm, I suppose I should provide some history for the hypothetical casual reader of my talk page (@_@) - in #wikipedia on Freenode, people were talking about the new messages dialogue, and I commented that I had only seen it once and was a lonely person. :P Er... can't find the new messages template... sorry... — flamingspinach | (talk) 01:20, 2005 Mar 7 (UTC)

[edit] "test" tag on your page

You asked me about the 'test' tag I added. Sorry, that was my mistake... I misread the page history on a page and thought that you had created it. The history had only two entries, the page creation and a speedy delete. I read them backwards and thought you had created the page when you had added the speedy delete. I realized the mistake and took it off your talk page. Sorry about that! -Gblaz 13:16, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Ah, got it. Thanks for being vigilant! :P — flamingspinach | (talk) 21:10, 2005 Jun 17 (UTC)

[edit] Van der Veer

You tagged Van der Veer for speedy deletion. It doesn't seem to fit any of the speedy delete criteria. Since you used {{d}}, rahter than a more specific tempalte, i don't know what you thought the reason was. If you use {{db}} and give a reason, or use one of the many specific templates wihich inclue a pre-specified reason, it ius very helpful to admins looking theough the lsit of pages tagged for speedy deletion. DES (talk) 23:34, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, I acted in haste. It seemed to me that Van der Veer should be a disambiguation page for various people with such a name, and since Google returns almost equal numbers of hits for "Van der Veer" and "Vandiver", I didn't think that labeling the former as an archaic version of the latter was completely appropriate. Perhaps an adaptation from information at this site would be in order? In any case, do what you think best. Sorry about that. — flamingspinach | (talk) 00:11, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "Date standardization"

Please read Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers) before you go through a page and turn all the dates into links again, as you did with Scientology. Specifically, note:

If the date doesn't contain a day and a month, then date preferences won't work, and square brackets won't respond to your readers' auto-formatting preferences. So unless there is a special relevance of the date link, there's no need to link it. This is an important point: simple years, decades and centuries should only be linked if there's a strong reason for doing so. See Wikipedia:Make_only_links_relevant_to_the_context for the reasons that it's usually undesirable to insert low-value chronological links; see also Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links)#Internal links.

Thank you for pointing this out to me, and fixing my error. I'll keep this in mind for future edits. — flamingspinach | (talk) 17:51, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Curly quotes

The curly qotes around “—All You Zombies—” read better with big type, and distinguish a page where the quotes round the title are intentional from pages created by new users who misunderstand how the Wikipedia search engine works. Susvolans 17:53, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Joseph Clayton Carr Deletion

I came across the BS article at the same time. Not sure how to nominate for speedy deletion so I just quickly erased the page and hit save. Must have got your deletion by accident. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers or mess with your work. Thanks for the heads up on speedy deletion. I am somewhat new to WP so I am still learning all of the ins and outs--Looper5920 06:32, 13 December 2005 (UTC) I had planned on getting rid of it. Just got lazy. --Looper5920 06:52, 13 December 2005 (UTC)Thanks for the reminder to do it.

[edit] Re Jayant

Thanks for the clarification.

Ummm... I'm rather embarrassed to see that there was a question for me way up there that I haven't answered in, what, ten months? Just in case you're still dying to find out the answer, I expect I didn't even notice what article you were editing: saw the red link, saw you hadn't been vandalizing, so welcomed you! Hmmm, sounds rather impersonal when put like that. Anyway, I guess I should be more attentive and notice when someone asks me a question...

[edit] Fringe Shift

Can you change where it goes for me? (and tell me what you did) I've edited articles anon for a while and then a little as a reg'd user but that's my first new article and I'm a bit clueless when it comes to using the wiki editing tools. [edit] St Mungo's Primary School, Glasgow

I don't believe that this warrants a CSD notice as Wikipedia:WikiProject_Schools indicates that school articles are to be kept and expanded. There is always a lot of talk generated when someone nominates a school article for deletion on AfD. This article needs a lot of cleaning up and expanding but it is not inherently worthless. The school does exist, according to Google.co.uk.  (aeropagitica)  20:45, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Hello again! I have taken the good advice that you left for me on my Talk page and have attempted to do a NPOV re-write of St Mungo's Primary School. There is a little more information there now than previously and the categories and stubs have also been added. I would welcome any more comments that you have on this subject. Regards,  (aeropagitica)  19:58, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
You really are most kind with your description of me as an inclusionist, thank you! I hope that we cross paths on future collaborative edits and that the articles emerge improved as a result. Regards,  (aeropagitica)  22:13, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

That edit was as a matter of policy, rather than as a desire to agree with you. Thanks, but no thanks. (I removed the barnstar) — flamingspinach | (talk) 19:55, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

It appears that we interpret WP:UP in rather different ways. I figured removal of racist content from a userpage would be a no-brainer, based on that page and on actions I've seen other administrators take. android79 20:01, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Flamingspinach, I don't understand why you would help theEmoEater maintain an attack page. That falls well outside the tolerance traditionally accorded to content in the userspace. Bishonen | ノート 20:12, 14 March 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Oh hi, just dropping a odd Wikipedia tradition on your page...

I happened to read your comment to the edibleOmplaLoompa about hidden Wikipedia traditions. I don't really have a tradition for you, but I have a hidden maintence job you might be interested in: Recently, the developers added a footnote feature to MediaWiki(the software the site runs on). Before that, footnotes were done with two templates {{ref}} and {{note}}. There are many thosands of pages that need to be translated from the old to the new system. If you're interested, head over to Template_talk:Ref and look around...

Oh, and, in case you haven't heard of it, you do not need to take any pages that need to be deleted to wP:AfD anymore. If you think the deletion will be uncontroversial, use the WP:PROD process instead. Enjoy your time at Wikipedia! JesseW, the juggling janitor 09:57, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:21, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] wikEd

The wikEdlogo

Hi, I have seen that you are using the Cacycle editor extension. This program is no longer actively maintained in favor of its much more powerful successor wikEd.

wikEd has all the functionality of the old editor plus: • syntax highlighting • nifty image buttons • more fixing buttons • paste formatted text from Word or web pages • convert the formatted text into wikicode • adjust the font size • and much, much more.

Switching to wikEd is easy, check the detailed installation description on its project homepage. Usually it is as simple as changing every occurrence of editor.js into wikEd.js on your User:YourUsername/monobook.js page.

[edit] CLOUDS

I don't accept your definition of Clouds not being 'notable'. If you read the sources I left at the foot of the page, you'd find all the sources and verification you need. A cursory glance at Amazon. com, both in the Uk and the Usa, will show you who Clouds were. If you checked the Clouds website (www.cloudsmusic.com) as I originally suggested, you'd find yet more articles and references, including the 4 page MOJO Magazine article about Clouds/1-2-3 which credited them with 'The Birth of Prog', and in which, David Bowie describles Billy Ritchie as 'an unrecognised genius'. 'The History of Scottish Rock & Pop' is a BBC book (Guinness Publishing) - there seems ample source confirmation of everything said in the article. Unless the criteria is something completely different than I understand it to be, I don't see how the band can be dismissed as 'not notable'. Please re-check sources, and advise...thank you Matthew.hartington11:34 7 December 2006 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Matthew.hartington (talkcontribs) 11:34, 7 December 2006 (UTC).
