Flattbush played in support of Melt Banana of Japan and toured Southern California extensively. Flattbush's drummer Anthony Gonzales resigned and was replaced by Ramon Banda, Jr. and in early 2000, Billy Gould signed the band onto his indie label, Koolarrow Records.

In 2002, guitarist Eric Long resigned from the group, and was replaced by guitarist Bradley Walther. After the recording was finished on Smash The Octopus, the debut album from Koolarrow Records and their first American support tour was complete, drummer Ramon Banda also resigned from Flattbush and was replaced by drummer Joe Luevano, then the band embarked on another United States tour. Flattbush’s second album on Koolarrow Records, Seize The Time, is set for release in the fall of 2006.

Smash The Octopus was Flattbush's debut release for Koolarrow Records, consisting of 13 tracks recorded and mixed in April 2003 in San Francisco by Billy Gould (ex-Faith No More) and engineered by Mark Pistel (Meat Beat Manifesto, Consolidated, Spearhead).

After releasing their first album Smash the Octopus in the Fall of 2003, Flattbush embarked on two U.S. tours including opening slots with Mike Patton and Rahzel, a west coast tour in 2004 with Fear Factory.[citation needed] Over the next two years, the band played with Asesino, Brujeria, and completed two successful American tours.[citation needed]

[edit] PRESS

"'SMASH THE Octopus' is not to be simply listened to - it's designed to be machine-gunned into the ears, with staccato delivery carrying past tales of violent repression by the US-sponsored Marcos regime in the Philippines...Savage." Kerrang Magazine rating: KKKK Sept 27, 2003

"There's a whole life time of oppression and suffering and rightous anger in these grooves, and really, this is exactly what Rage Against the Machine would have sounded like, if they where for real." Sleazegrinder Magazine[citation needed]

"Smash the octopus! is the band's first album...and it's frightening. But it is also impressiveŠthat the band could come up with something this coherent for a debut disc." Online Magazine[citation needed]
