Flash Media Server ( previously named Flash Communication Server ) is a real-time, data and media sharing server from Adobe Systems Inc. , designed to support the creation of multiuser and media-enabled applications for the Macromedia Flash player runtime. The server is written in the C programming language and uses actionscript, an ECMAScript based scripting language, for server-side logic.
Flash Media Server uses a protocol called RTMP to tunnel the information from user to user. Flash Media server supports deployment of streaming video using the FLV (Flash video) format, among other features.
Flash Media Server is also used as a base for the Breeze Server, Adobe's proprietary server technology for online collaboration applications.
