[edit] Welcome

Hi Fisss, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for joining the coolest online encyclopedia I know of. I hope you stick around. You'll probably find it easiest to start with a tutorial of how the wikipedia works, and you can test stuff for yourself in the sandbox. Check out the simplified ruleset. When you're contributing, you'll probably find the manual of style to be helpful, and you'll also want to remember a couple important guidelines.

  1. Write from a neutral point of view
  2. Be bold in editing pages
  3. Use wikiquette.

Those are probably the most important ones, and you can take a look at some others at the policies and guidelines page. You might also be interested in how to write a great article and possibly adding some images to your articles.

Be sure to get involved in the community – you can contact me on my talk page if you have any questions, and you can check out the village pump, where lots of wikipedians hang out and discuss things. Alternatively you can place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. If you're looking for something to do, check out the community portal. And whenever you ask a question or post something on a talk page, be sure to sign your name by typing 4 tildes like ~~~~. Always sign the talk page, never the articles.

Again, welcome! It's great to have you. Happy editing!--May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| r 3 $ |-| t |-|) 10:52, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Double poster

Hello, I notice you uploaded the Spirit Trap film poster twice, each of different file name. I've just tagged the unused file, Image:Spirit trap.JPG, for deletion in order to prevent duplicated images. Don't worry though, the other image, Image:Spirittrap.jpg, is still left intact. Thank you. *drew 10:13, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Lindsaylohan.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Lindsaylohan.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 10:42, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures redux

If the pictures you downloaded are your own, please use {PD-self} tag rather than generic {PD}. You may want to add the date when you took every picture if you don't want the pictures to be deleted. Cheers, Ghirla -трёп- 14:41, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Commons

It would have been better still if you uploaded your images not here but to Wikipedia Commons, where they can be used by Russian Wikipedia and other wikipedia projects as well. Please consider this option seriously. --Ghirla -трёп- 17:19, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

For the time being, I have to remove your images from some articles just because they are too short and we'd better not to turn the stubs into image galleries. On the other hand, if you added the images to Wikicommons, they could be used for articles in other Wikipedias. Thanks for your work, Ghirla -трёп- 17:20, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Kunstkammer.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Kunstkammer.JPG. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:View_from_Hotel.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:View_from_Hotel.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. [edit] Category:Suburbs of Saint Petersburg

Hello. This is to let you know that [Category:Suburbs of Saint Petersburg] has been deleted. The reasons for deletion are as follows:

  • Category contents duplicate the contents of other categories.
  • There is no exact definition of what a "Saint Petersburg suburb" is. With this ambiguity, it is impossible to populate the category in a way that would be meaningful and useful to the end user.

I am also planning to review the Category:Moscow neighborhoods, possibly deleting it for the same reasons.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) 18:39, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Veneto.JPG

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Veneto.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Image:Theatre32.jpg

You've taken this picture from a website, it has been scanned from a postcards album. That's not your photo, and it is a copyright violation, man. At least you could've used "Fair use" tag. Ъыь 10:52, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Fisss, I hope you understand that just because you yourself scanned a photo, it does not automatically make you its creator. Hence, you cannot release it into public domain. Please review your approach to uploading photographs. If you continue like that, I or the other admins will be forced to delete every single photo you upload regardless of where you obtain them or how you tag them. You may also be blocked from editing—blatant copyright infringement like yours is taken pretty seriously these days, and you are pretty much running out of your good-faith allotment.

Удачи, Ghirla -трёп- 17:41, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request

[edit] St. Petersburg

Hi. I am sorry, but I had to revert your edits to Administrative divisions of Saint Petersburg. Your edit removed all the links, making the article next-to-impossible to update in the future. Please do not remove or change the links in this article; if necessary, use piping and redirects. Thank you.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 12:25, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

I am also curious if you are planning to write the articles about every municipal okrug of St. Petersburg. If so, it's great, but I am just not sure what kind of information such articles would contain. If you are not planning to write them, perhaps we can unlink them to reduce the number of red links. Thanks.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 13:29, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate it. Could you let me know when you are mostly done, please? There are quite a few minor things that need to be changed to make the article not fall out of the bigger picture, but I don't want to interfere with what you do. Also, please maintain consistency of districts' naming—do not confuse city districts and municipal okrugs. Sennoy District, that you have just created, should really be called Sennoy Municipal Okrug, Saint Petersburg, otherwise it is unclear from the title whether it is a city district or a municipal okrug. If it's hard for you to keep track of all naming conventions, I'll make corrections after you are done. Again, thanks.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 13:51, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:-boston night.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:-boston night.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. [edit] Images

Fisss, uploading the image Namnlös3.JPG was completely unacceptable. The author explicitly said that he gives a few images free licenses and forbids inclusion of any other licenses. You copied his text and upload this image, doing explicitly what the author asked us not to do. I have deleted the image. Please do not do this again. We sometimes take the liberty to guess that an image is de-facto in the public domain and the author would not object to us having it here. Even this is highly controversial and each time is done on a good reason. We are certainly not in the busyness of stealing images from the authors who might object and especially from those who do object.

Also many articles, like Moscow already have quite a number of images. Inserting some images means removing (or putting into less prominent location) others. Please do not do this without some discussion on the talk page. abakharev 01:50, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flickr

[edit] Images

Thanks for the uploading nice images. But, you know we live in the society with complicated copyright laws. It is very important to be able to verify if Wikipedia is legally allowed to keep the images or not. Please, every time you upload an image specify the source and give some indication why you think the image can be used on wiki. If it is your own photograph please just say it. If you scanned the photo from a book - state the book. If you got it from the Internet state the address. If you got the image from a friend name the author and show his permissions. We are not telepaths, we do not know there you got this or that image. If somebody asks you about the source of the image do not just revert him like you do here or there. It is unacceptable. Also, please, do not remove free images to insert images with questionable copyright status. It only creates problems. Consider this as the last warning. The next time you upload an image without source, remove a maintenance notice from an image without solving the problem or deliberately provide an incorrect information about an image I will block you. I really do not want it, but I have no other way to stop this. abakharev 00:29, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked

Despite numerous warnings and explanations in both English and Russian you continue to upload images with inadequate source infromation and false copyright information. You leave me no choice but to block your acount. I see you have been blocked for this very thing before so I have blocked you for a full 1 week this time. You seem like a well meaning contributor, but if you contunue flaunting our copyright policies after this block have expired you will most likely be blocked indefinately. We would rater avoid that, so I'll explain one last time just in case you still haven't understood why your uploads are problematic.

When you upload images from Flickr linking to http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/ is not an adequate source, it tell us nothing about the status of the image you uploaded, just that Flickr have some images availabe under various Creative Commons licences, not all of wich qualify as free content (and Wikipedia only accept free content). You need to link to the image page for the actual image. For example for Image:Ostozhenka.jpg that would be http://www.flickr.com/photos/corrida/197267974/ now if you check the "Additional information" section on that page you will see that for that image the author have spesified "© All rights reserved" not {{cc-by}} as you claimed. You have also uploaded images in the past that while using a Creative Commons license used a non-free one, if you click on the "some rights reserved" link on the image page you will be taken to the creative commmons deed wich spesify the terms of the license. If it restrict non-commercial usage or forbid the distribution of derivative works the license is not free that can not be used on Wikipedia (except possebly as fair use, if it fulfill all our criterea). So please limit any future uploads to images that use only genuinely free Creative Commons licenses or other free licenses, and be sure to give the proper source so people can verify this. That way we can avoid this unpleasantnes in the future. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 17:30, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
