[edit] Categories
Hello. When people are listed in categories, they are typically listed under their last name, not their given name. To accomplish this, when adding a category, for example, Category:XYZ, to an article, for example, "John Smith", add Category:XYZ|Smith, John rather than simply Category:XYZ. This means that John Smith will be listed under "S" rather than "J" in the category. Thanks. McPhail 13:54, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I'm just going by the Wikipedia guidelines, which state that "sorting by last name is preferable". This is the approved means of categorisation within Wikipedia. You aren't obliged to follow this guideline, though. Thanks. McPhail 18:45, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalism
It is considered vandalism to remove other people's comments from this page. I already pointed this out to you. Please stop doing this. --Yamla 21:08, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- My apologies. I see you are moving them to the archive. Please ignore my comments above. --Yamla 21:09, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Top 99 of...
I'm sorry but I can't undelete an article that has gone through the Articles for Deletion process. It was listed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Top 99 of... on June 20 and you can see the results. Three is no requirement that article creators be notified when one of their articles are up for deletion; you need to make sure the article is on your watchlist and keep an eye out for these things. If you really want to challenge the deletion (incidentally I would have voted for deletion as well), you can state your case at Wikipedia:Deletion review. 23skidoo 21:11, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Lumiere - copyvio
[edit] Please don't add copyrighted text to Wikipedia
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate your creation of the article, Lumière, but we cannot accept copyrighted text borrowed from other web sites or printed material. Please see Wikipedia:Copyright problems for more information on this topic, or generally, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines. Please do not remove the copyright violation notice placed in the article or repost the suspected infringing text. However, if you would like to rewrite the article in your own words, follow the link in the posted notice to create a temporary subpage. If your new article is appropriate, and not a further copyright violation, the reviewing administrator will move that new article into place once the copyright status of the original has been resolved. Happy editing! Baseball,Baby! take a swing 17:46, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message (and for not biting my head off!). Don't worry too much about the template message above - sometimes they can be pretty cold and harsh, but the powers that be want us to follow their procedure. (Somebody really ought to rewrite these messages. Have you ever seen the big page-blanking message? It scares me just to look at it. Paste {{copyvio | url=insert URL here}} into a message and see what happens, but don't forget to take it out. Eek.)
- I understand that the entire article isn't from copyrighted text, but parts are and that's not allowed. If I hadn't tagged it, someone else would have and they quite possibly would have blanked the page in the interim with that huge, page-blanking, monster copyvio template. The copyright owner could - might not, but could - sue the Foundation for copyright infringement. The rules against copyright infringement are set in stone. This way, your page stays as it is while an admin sorts it out. If you have permission to use that text, you need to say so pretty quickly using the method on the copyright problems page – on a Google search for "In French, Lumière means light, in its purest, most transcendent form" the book pops up as the first 4 results. Amazon.com's sales page for the book has the text and it's the top result for me. Happy editing - Baseball,Baby! take a swing 13:44, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sara's Secrets
Thats fine, I marked it for deletion because it looked like a vanity article or even something made up, since it only had two lines and bad spelling like you said. Now it is expanded and tidied and is much better, clearly it is a real show and I sorry if I trod on any toes. Keep up the good work--Jackyd101 17:19, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Deleting categories
Sorry for the delay in replying but I've been away. Regarding your request re:deleting the category Category:Treehouse TV shows, I can't do that on my own. If I created the category myself that would be a different matter. If you created the category and cannot delete it yourself then it needs to be listed at Wikipedia:Categories for Deletion. Hope this helps. 23skidoo 00:38, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Category duplication
We're not supposed to duplicate categories on Wikipedia. Category:Canadian rock guitarists is already a subcategory of Category:Rock guitarists, so we're not supposed to file people in both categories simultaneously. Bearcat 14:36, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the thing to do, then, is to take the non-Canadian duplicate entries out of the parent category, not to add more duplicate entries into it. Bearcat 22:33, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Categories
Can you point me in the right direction for a "How To" or "Getting Started" guide to starting categories. Thanks!--Gephart 20:00, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Boy Meets Grill
I've deProdded Boy Meets Grill and explained my reasoning on Talk:Boy Meets Grill. -- Whpq 20:37, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Purvis
I added no content whatsoever to that article. My only changes were minor fixes to the text. Why don't you talk to the person who actually wrote the article? Everyking 03:56, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- I think you meant to direct your comments to User:142.167.243.107 [1]. An understandable error on their part, so long they don't make a habit of it, and an understandable error on your part as well. Nonetheless, I think you owe Everyking an apology. [edit] TfD nomination of Template:Template:Infobox Professional wrestling announcers
Template:Infobox Professional wrestling announcers has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. Lid 07:33, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Simpsons Teletoon
The Simpsons is currently on Comedy Network up in Canada, not teletoon - I can't remember it ever being on Teletoon in the last, but if I'm wrong, please revert my The Simpsons edit (and if possible mention in the edit comment when it was on teletoon?) Thanks. TheHYPO 09:37, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- OK, no problem - I don't personally remember them being on teletoon and thought you might have confused it with Family Guy or another show which was on one network and then switched. TheHYPO 02:18, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rob Feenie copyvio
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate your contributions to the Rob Feenie article, but we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. Perhaps you would like to rewrite the article in your own words. For more information, take a look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - Probably from around the same time as the Lumiere page. Please edit this page. I am sorry but I also put a copyright violation on the Lumiere page, it has been several months since you were notified but I think the changes were not extensive enough to count as writing it on your own.
[edit] Re: Reverting on CBC page
By taking away the list of past personalities from that article, you are causing data loss and suppressing insight. Please keep that list there, using the category link as a "see also". -- Denelson83 15:43, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- A category is not to be used as a substitute for a list. If you want to get the names off the main article, you can try creating a separate list at List of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation personalities and see how that flies. You cannot, however, simply link to the category as if it were a list; for one thing, it's impossible for the category to include redlinks, and for another, a category is not simply a cached page on the server; the server has to actually generate the category each individual time it's called up, which generates far greater server load than is warranted. Bearcat 04:15, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Dutch rock pianists
I am not sure how to populate it, as I have divided up all Dutch pianists by styl (except for one who is unclear, yet not rock). Best regards, gidonb 14:24, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
