[edit] Family history

The family first gained distinction in the 1800s as four Yimer brothers, of whom two were senior and notable members of the royal court. Through banking, commerce and royal patronage, the family acquired great wealth in the late 19th century and political influence came along with this wealth. At the turn of the century the family was the largest land owner in the country and had a considerable influence in the running of the government. Power waned following the communist revolution as most members of the family left for overseas notably Switzerland, Monaco and United Kingdom.

The family are still very rich and prosperous. Currently the family fortune is spread across the globe through the ownership of numerous estates, art collections and business establishments.
