Fisherman's Village
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fisherman's Village is a waterfront tourist spot in Marina del Rey, California. It is a built in the style of a New England fishing village. Its tallest building is a lighthouse (at the bottom of which an Orange Julius was formerly located; it is now a Chinese take-out place).
Its waterfront offers a good view of Marina del Rey's dominant feature, the largest man-made small boat harbor in the world, with about 7,000 pleasure boats and yachts.
The Village serves as the location for yacht brokerages, travel agencies, and gift shops, as well as dance clubs, restaurants, and franchises such as El Torito. Kiddie rides are situated near El Torito.
[edit] Activities
- Fisherman's Village connects with the Ballona Creek bicycle path and the Santa Monica bicycle path.
- Live music is played near the lighthouse and the large bell that hangs at its center.
- The UCLA and LMU rowing teams practice both in Ballona Creek and in the Fisherman's Village harbor.
[edit] Fisherman's Village in television and film
- Scenes involving The Bluth Banana Stand in the television program Arrested Development were filmed next to the lighthouse in Fisherman's Village. Although set in Newport Beach and Balboa Island, California, the show is primarily filmed in locations around Culver City and Marina del Rey.
- The dates that occur on the program Blind Date have often been filmed at Shanghai Red's, a restaurant at the far end of Fisherman's Village.
