[edit] Your RfA
I am pleased to let you know that, consensus reached, you are now an Administrator. You should find the following forums useful:
Congratulations on your promotion and the best of luck with your new charge! Redux 07:14, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Hey fir, congrats and all that :) I just wanted to point out a few things as you're one of the less experienced (in admin related things) person to pass through RFA. By this I don't mean you'd to a bad job (hey I supported you didn't I...) but more of a caution to be careful (which I'm sure you'd be anyway). Slightly ironically the only admin action that can't be reversed is image deletion. Therefore the worst you can do is either 1) do something horribly controversial that causes a big fuss and some editors leave in the fall out or 2) you delete an important picture or something and don't have a backup. Now number 1 can be avoided with experience and discussing things with other admins, and number 2 can be avoided by keeping a local backup of any pictures you delete (unless you are 100% sure that it's ok to go, and once you're familiar with the deletion interface). If you want a play with deleting/restoring pages feel free to have a play in my personal sandbox User:Petros471/Testing, where I've messed around with that sort of thing (trying out selective deletion etc.)
If you have any questions feel free to ask me, or any of the other hoard of admins around. Petros471 08:12, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Are you aware...
of the Wikia, Inc. site for Academic Publishing? I have only recently learned of its existence after having my work extricated from the Wikipedia since it was determined to be Original Research. Since photos seem to be able to avoid this particular problem unlike text I was sure glad to find it. If you have any time i would greatly appreciate some help in sprucing it up even if it is just from suggestion. Thanks ...IMHO (Talk) 01:30, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

- I don't really get it. Is it a part of Wikimedia or is it a rival? --Fir0002 08:18, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- Wikia. Inc. is a commercial venture as I understand it that was started by Jimbo for the purpose of helping users resolve the problem of not being able to publish unpublished works in the Wikipedia due to the WP:NOR policy. It is commercial (by stuff like allowing Google ads and possibly for other reasons I do not yet know about or understand). It has already helped me expand my definition and to consider questions only others have thought of asking in addition to getting back into C++ and ASM. If my work is approved then I will be allowed to publish it in the Wikipedia or Wikibooks without violating the WP:NOR. ...IMHO (Talk) 12:51, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Delisting Pictures
Hi, Fir0002. My name is Moshe and I was wondering if you could put some featured pictures up for delisting. I am not as advanced as you are on Wikipedia (I see you nominated the Epicyclic Gear Ratios for removal) and am thus unable to do it myself. However, I believe that the following pictures are not up to standards and deserve to lose their "featured status".
- Fawn in Forest - Not very high-quality, not very alluring
- Mount Cook - Lens glare, plane wing visible
- Lincoln Statue - Too blurry, and again, not very alluring
Thank you for your time. --MosheA 15:23, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Monitor calibration
Fir, I'm working through several of the recent WP:FPC nominations so I can close them, and I noticed something while doing so. It seems that in many cases where you have provided an edited version of an image, that image is significantly brighter than other edits. This isn't a problem per se; you may just have a preference for brighter images than many others. But it's also possible that the monitor you view/edit images on is set significantly darker than most other people's.
If your monitor hasn't been calibrated, you might want to calibrate it. If you use Mac OS X, an eyeball color-calibration tool is included in the "Color" subpane of the Displays preferences pane. I'd also recommend setting overall color temperature to the D65 standard and monitor gamma to 2.2. In fact, even if your monitor has been calibrated, it might be worth doing again as displays shift in character as they age.
You are obviously an accomplished photographer here on Wikipedia, so I hope you don't take these comments the wrong way (especially as I'm somewhat of a newbie here). I'm impressed by your work. It's just something I noticed about your edits that makes me think your monitor might be set darker than most.
-- moondigger 23:31, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. To clarify: I'm not saying your monitor isn't a good one, only that it may require calibration. Frankly, the three-dot calibration guide on WP:FPC isn't very good, though it's better than nothing at all. I understand about prepping photos for printing, but keep in mind that when you edit for Wikipedia it's primarily for web display. That said, I believe you probably do just prefer brighter images overall.
- Thanks for your kind words about my photography. I've been doing it a long time both as a hobby and on paid assignment, though lately I've been avoiding paid assignments as they take some of the joy out of it. (I make my living primarily as a professional computer geek.) I will be uploading more images eventually, though some of my better images can't be uploaded due to copyright restrictions. Cheers -- moondigger 00:49, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Bit of advice please
Great, I'd just written a reply to this, and before I hit save, my computer decided to freeze. So much for 'stable WinXP'... So forgive me if this reply is a bit shorter and less detailed:
First off the official policy on sockpuppets is WP:SOCK, which contains lots of useful info like how to tag them etc. Also check out the bit on meatpuppets. Generally speaking when I'm dealing with the messy business of socks I identify the 'puppet master', the main (oldest, most edits) account. Then all other accounts that have strong evidence that they are used by the same person (or people who are editing in a way that makes then indistinguishable from the same person) should be indef blocked. They don't need to be warned if the evidence is strong enough. If the contrib evidence isn't strong enough (glancing at the ones listed on that link you gave me suggests some are pretty obvious, others might need a closer look) then you can request a checkuser (WP:RFCU). The main account isn't usually blocked, but warned that using sockpuppets for vote stacking is against policy. If they continue then it can be blocked for a short period (at first, then longer if continues). Kmf164 is also an admin by the looks of it, so you should be able to work together on this (I generally stay out of sock situations I'm not familiar with, because it does need a knowledge of the contribs). Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions/need more help on this. Petros471 13:21, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Swifts Creek Page
Re the coordinates for the Creek, I wonder what is more correct. I used the Land.vic official government coordinates, which you should think would be correct (having said which they give different coordinates for the creek itself, although that may make sense given it's not just in one spot). I have added the Land.vic link to the references section if you want to double check. Have also now done a Land.vic check on Flaggy, again different from Google (or were you estimating the town coordinates from the Flagstaff coordinates on Google?). I wonder where Google get their coordinates?
- Google for Flaggy: Latitude 37°15'48.66"S, Longitude 147°43'17.90"E
- Land.vic for Flaggy: Latitude 37 16 40 S, Longitude 147 42 56 E
- Land.vic for SC town: Latitude 37°16'04" S, Longitude 147°43'24" E
This is a quandary.
Re the floods, yes I too was thinking about them, or even a section on our 'natural disasters' - flood, fire, hail, drought, etc. In fact, just this afternoon as I was driving over the bridge I was thinking about adding some flood pics. Where did u get yours from? I also have some flood pics, but they are 'real' photos so would need to be scanned. Would have to have a look at what else you've got (dare we make it even MORE of a photo gallery?). I suppose we could add a fair bit of text on the disasters though.
I also have a few historical photos that I got off Graeme.
PS Have a look at the Bairnsdale page, see what you think. Also went and took some Ensay pics yesterday to start making an article on that.

[edit] SC & FP Op
I think u'd have to explain HDR to me a bit more, and show me the originals for me to compare. But speaking of which, if you look back at the Bairnsdale page I really like the pic inside St Mary's. I reckon it's a possible feature pic, but not mine (too soft for starters, but I reckon I've done pretty much what I can with my camera and Photoshop and time). But was thinking if you got in there with your equipment you might be able to make something a bit more of it, perhaps using HDR or exposure bracketing (are they the same thing?). Perhaps a shot from the choir loft (if u could get up there) would be even better.
Will check the Google coords after the hols (change them if you want; personally though I think the decimal places at least are possibly unnecessary). Personally I would tend to trust the Land.vic data; I would need to check where Google get theirs from, e.g., is it just from satellite data? - could be innaccurate, esp if they haven't allowed for relativity ;). --jjron 10:00, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes I remember Old St Pauls, in fact we might have been instrumental in getting it promoted, I think we both supported. Something to bear in mind, but perhaps leave it for a few months and have a go if you think it's worth a try. I think you could do a far better job, in fact looking again at the St Pauls pic I'm not sure that even my photo isn't better quality without the HDR. I don't have a problem with featuring the inside of a few churches, e.g., surely if someone put up the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel no one could argue that it was invalidated by having Old St Pauls there. Clearly you don't want every church in the world featured, but this is something pretty special that I personally have never seen anywhere else.
- Yes, 'assuming someone cared', I like that. Incidentally, have you checked the coords from the Omeo article in Google Earth? See if someone cared there. --jjron 10:29, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- Um, that SC page looks like crap now. I'm not so much against the info box (I was considering hunting up how to put one in myself), but its placement. On my screen it shoves everything else down beneath it cos of the pano (your screen may be different because of the extra width but I think more people would be using my sort of width). In fact ALL you see when you go to the page is the info box. Also the map is useless, it shows Melbourne, not SC. Maybe we put the info box under the pano (or make the pano narrower), perhaps in place of that second pic? Also we need to get rid of all those 'unknowns', they just look dopey. Either get some data, which may not be possible, or remove them.
- If the coordinates for the Wiki thing and Google Earth don't agree, which will you use? Presumably if you used the Google Earth ones it would load up the wrong spot on the Wiki map? It is a little disappointing without the seconds, can we add those so they show in the text but the link stays as is? --jjron 01:27, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- I reckon we find a map of Victoria, not Australia, and put SC on that, like I did for the SW Wilderness article (can then also use it for Bairnsdale, Omeo, Ensay, etc). Either that or fix one of Aust. Re area, I calculate 1.2km from Shelton's Lane to my place (what I would consider the ends of town) and say 400m from the river to the oval, gives 0.48sq km. Then gives popn density of 937.5, which is a bit over the top, it's more than Melbourne, I figure only about 200 live in the actual 'town' area I've specified, so say a density of 416? I will put these figures in, change them if you disagree.
- BTW, do you need any special powers to rename a page? I am unhappy with Ensay being just Ensay, while everything else is say Swifts Creek, Victoria. I want to change Ensay to Ensay, Victoria. Do you need to be an admin to do that? --202.182.65.206 03:20, 22 June 2006 (UTC). That was me, the stupid thing logged me out (PS am gonna say 1.3km from end to end, think I've underestimated a little which will alter other figures a bit). --jjron 03:23, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
- Right, done some of that. Played around a bit with placement; change things if you can improve it. Still need a better map. --jjron 03:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- Re Ensay renaming - do you just create a new page and turn the old page into a redirect, or is there a better way? --jjron 03:57, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- Have you checked the page since I shifted the info box below the pano? How does it work on your screen? Maybe we now need more text before the first section though. That Omeo map isn't that bad (it would be better if it wasn't called "Omco location map"!), but am sure there's usable things on Commons that we can grab and modify, possibly better. Do you prefer an Aust map or Vic map? Yes, I'm sure the info box was copied straight off the Melbourne page. I wouldn't worry anymore about the coords at the moment, we'll have a look in a couple of weeks. Yes, too slow for Ensay question! --jjron 09:58, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Voting on FPC
No, I have nothing against you. I just feel that it is pointless to vote "Support" on a photo that will obviously pass (unless the picture is flawless).
I do feel, however (and if you are offended by this I apologize) that due to your various other excellent contributions to FPC that you reputation has begun to proceed you, and works that (I feel) are not quite FP quality (like Jonquil Flowers, Ten Pin Bowling, Orb Weaver Spider) are getting consideration from some simpily because "it's a Fir0002 photograph". But regardless, I have nothing against you, though I do look forward to more of your high-quality that I will most certainly vote "Support" on. Morgan695 13:41, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- Oh ok, I guess I acted a little hastily. But I've got to encourage you to add support votes (and I'm not talking about just mine). Even if it seems just like a "pile on" support, the nominator likes to see a genuine reaction, not just a summary promotion (I know I value each one I get :-) --Fir0002 06:58, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

I've got a problem to ask advice about. Sometimes, not all the time a page will say it's finished loading but be only paritially loaded, and then when I go to edit a page I accidentally "delete" all the stuff which didn't load. This happened to me yesterday when I was closing some candidates. Has anyone else been affected by it, and does anyone have anything to suggest to fix the problem? Not really, no. All I do is just go through the steps one at a time with all the nominations at once, eg first decide whether to promote or not, then add them all at once to the archive, then add them all at once to Goings On etc. It's the quickest and least tedious way I've found to do them. - I didn't like the "natural" b/g simply because it wasn't natural. I don't even know why you brought this issue up on my talk page: "I've uploaded an edit which specifically addresses your concern." I don't see how changing the colour of the b/g makes it more natural let alone specifically addresses my concern. Froggydarb 09:17, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, so I don't like the white or the grey or the "natural" b/g therefore my vote is staying as it was originally: Oppose. I didn't know what the spider was on when the picture was taken, I assummed that it was on a plant or something that wasn't man-made, and if it wasn't on something man-made chances are I would have supported the picture. Seeing that it was on an glass with all other colours behind it I can see why you gave it a white b/g. Although it does make the picture looks better it lowers it's encyclopedic value. If the spiders b/g was the "natural" one, it wouldn't be pleasing to the eye. Either way one of the WP:WIAFP critrea isn't meet. Froggydarb 09:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your photographs
Hi, Fir0002. I came across your page by clicking around. I just went to your website and am overwhelmed. Your photographs are so amazingly beautiful. Well just wanted to tell you that. Shannonduck talk 06:42, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi again, Fir0002. Just wanted to tell you that I didn't say that because I was just being nice. Your photographs are, for sure, as good as I've seen anywhere. I've been into photography a little myself, in the past, and have even studied it, just a bit. They are absolutely stunning, and show a deep love of nature. I believe you have what it takes to be a photojournalist or any sort of professtional photographer. Shannonduck talk 16:33, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About a pic I fell in love with
I was browsing trough commons and an image caught my eye, it is found here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Floating_on_water.jpg I was wondering if it is apropiate for a nomination for FPC. I belive it fails two critical criteria, the one about being in an article and the one about being encyclopedic, both wich I think could be adressed with some cleverness. what do you think? Should I load it first to the english wikipedia or can it be nominated directly from commons?Nnfolz 03:24, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- I just realized that the file can be brought here even if it's uploaded in commons, so forget bout the last part.Nnfolz 04:06, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nice Photos
Hi Marumari! Nice to see your addition to FPC, I've had a look through your other pix and they look pretty good! These are my favs: Image:Swallowtail dying.jpg, Image:Pivoting king vulture.jpg, Image:Mexican wolf lounging.jpg (I'd even try feature the mexican wolf one). Well done, but I wonder if I could ask you to upload in higher res? Thanks, --Fir0002 06:22, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words on my photography! If a picture is headed for FP status, I'd have no problem uploading a higher resolution version of it. I have enough photos uploaded already that I'd rather not go through the whole process for all of them again. I should also clarify that I would perhaps one day in the future, it would maybe-possibly-would-be-awesome to start a career in photography. As such, I'm a little bit torn been my love of Wikipedia and the ever-so-slight possibility of making a tiny dent in the cost of all this photographic gear. -- Marumari 13:20, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, I'd love for you to feature some of my work. :) --Marumari 21:17, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Wikimania-(2006-full).gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Wikimania-(2006-full).gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:08, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Don't leave...
Please don't leave, Fir. By all means, take a short Wikibreak (I'm thinking of taking one now I seem to have stirred up all these bad feelings by (I thought innocently) nominating those pictures for delisting), but don't leave. Wikipedia is a great place, and it's in need of great people like you. You've achieved so much here! You're an admin, you've contributed an MASSIVE 47 Featured pictures, and many others that haven't been featured yet. You're one of the most helpful and constructive voters I've ever seen on FPC. Don't leave, for the sake of the community and the life you've built here. Maybe take a couple of weeks off, or just keep editing pages but ignoring discussions. —Vanderdecken∴ ∫ξφ 11:09, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- No... You can't leave (well of course technically you can, but don't!). Seriously, apart from tracking down your last contrib and the above message that appeared on my watchlist, I don't know what's up (I don't follow FPC), but it would be a terrible shame for you to go. You've contributed so many great photo's (the featured ones, and even the ones that aren't are still way better than most other ones), you've shown you have the trust of the community (RFA), and people look to you for advice (see this talk page). You're literally world famous (I was showing a friend of mine your stuff, trying to persuade him to release some of his photos out there on a free license). As Vanderdecken said above, sure take a break (I'm kind of on one myself at the moment), take some discussions that are causing you stress of your watchlist for a while, but please don't just pack up! All the best, Petros471 13:25, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- I agree! Don't leave! If you left, all of our articles would have to be illustrated with crayon drawings made by local 6 year-old children! Well, that's perhaps a bit of exaggeration, but it's on the right track. You're one of our most valuable photographic contributors. When I'm stressed by Wikipedia, what I do, is I take a sudden break. I'll be right in the middle of a WikiTask, and I'll just leave. For days. Eventually, you feel good because Wikipedia isn;t stressing you anymore. Then the good feeling wears off, and then, after a few more days, you'll start to feel guilty for not contributing, and eventually you'll be drawn right back. For me, it works every time. Hope it works for you, RyanGerbil10 (Drop on in!) 18:01, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Oh dear... a Wikipedia without you would not be much of a Wikipedia at all! I can't count the number of times I've looked at a gorgeous picture, and predicted seeing your info on the image page. I'm sorry that things are stressing you out, but you should know just how much your contributions are appreciated! I hope you are able to relax, and that things improve. -- Natalya 18:46, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
You are appreciated. In case that wasn't already obvious. I had not noticed any of your images before (that I'm aware of), but that's merely a sign of the giganticism of Wikipedia - you are appreciated, and will be missed if you leave. Even if you are unwilling to continue fighting the good fight at FPC, please don't stop releasing your wonderful photos under free licenses. Thanks for all your work. - Hi everyone! Although when I logged on just now I had already decided to not leave Wikipedia, it was overwhelming to find this response on my talk page! Thanks a lot! I really want to stress Vanderdecken that I in no way was making a personal point against you. I have no ill feelings towards you, you're one of the many users on Wikipedia I like to think of as my friends! Anyway I hope things settle down, as I really enjoy contributing to Wikipedia, but last week it just wasn't worth it anymore. However I guess it's one of those experiences which make you into a stronger person etc etc, and hopefully I'll never reach this point a second time. So you'll all be seeing more of me in the future! --Fir0002 09:09, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] G'day
G'day, sorry to hear you're getting fed up with this place. It's not surprising that you're outgrowing Wikipedia, and as you're going through VCE and thinking about uni, it's even less surprising that the pettiness and bitching here would get to you. What can I say - you're incredibly valuable to us, and an inspiration to a lot of hack photographers like me :) I hope that whatever happens you keep producing awesome photos, and that you still share the occasional one with us. Best of luck with everything. Stevage 13:47, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Stevage, what can I say? You've analyzed me perfectly! I can only guess you're speaking from expereince :-). Wikipedia is generally a great community and there are heaps of great users such as yourself which make it an enjoyable place. But there are some users which need adjectives to describe which really shouldn't be used ;-). I'm giving my time/photos for nothing and when the process ceases to be enjoyable, well it's just not worth continuing. So much other stuff I could be doing instead. Well I guess really I've put too much effort into the project to quit, so I'll be sticking around. And although I'm moving into doing more artistic and people photos as I begin to earn money through my photography, there are still plenty I'll be uploading! Thanks for your message, and you too Sergeant Snopake! I appreciate it! --Fir0002 09:22, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- Basically what he said. I appreciate the only time I ever spoke to you was when I wished you Happy Birthday, but I've been keeping an eye on you ever since then, and you're a really good user, it's sad to see that you're thinking about leaving, though I wish you all the best. Don't be distressed. I have had a few tough and sad moments on Wikipedia during almost two years here. Don't worry, be happy. :) You are a great editor and photo expert, valuable for our community. Lack of your person would be a large loss to our "wiki-family". - Darwinek 09:57, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Licencing and other things
You're probably right about the licencing. I just hadn't really tried to think about it lately. As for those two lenses, I think the 70-200mm f/2.8L lens is the better lens, but the 24-105mm f/4L IS is definitely my walkaround lens, dispite its faults. I've been meaning to send mine back to Canon, as it was one of the first made and has a fault ([1]) which I haven't as yet had fixed. The other problem is one that has occasionally shown itself on the edges. I suspect it may have something to do with the IS as it seems to only happen intermittantly and occasionally (ie here [2]. The left edge is significantly out of focus and I don't know why. So I'm going to take my 24-105mm back to Canon sometime soon and get those issues checked out. Oh, and it vignettes slightly wide open. I should note that having a full frame camera makes those sorts of issues worse than they would be on your 20D. But for a walkaround lens, it can't really be beaten. Its great for low light photography (wide open, at 24mm and IS, you can shoot just about anywhere without a tripod if you have to). What software do you use for that wikimedia montage you have on your 1 yr sub-page? Oh, and congrats on the 85mm f/1.8 lens you now have. Its easily my favourite lens, although it isn't the most useful. Aside from portraits where it obviously excels, its difficult to find uses for it, but I try nonetheless. ;) I used it for that Notre Dame pano, actually. Could you possibly identify all the ingredients in the image of the salad platter? I'm writing the caption for the POTD and it would be helpful. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 16:56, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Looks like bread, lettuce, spring onions, cucumber, feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, beetroot (?), cherry tomatoes and some kind of olive (brown? neither green nor black?), with dressing in a jar. A sprig of coriander in the back? Lovely pic :) Stevage 11:54, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- That has to be parsley (probably Italian parsley), no one would put coriander on a salad like this. Also, those are definitely beets. Look at the color of the stain on one of the cubes of Feta. --Dante Alighieri | Talk 19:09, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nomination for Delisting (Wolf Spider) (Emperor Gum Moth)
Hello. Very recently I was pointed out to the "courtesy call" of informing the original nominator if his/her image is being nominated for delisting. I admit, I was somewhat aware of the practice, but I seemed to miss the boldfaced notice saying that it was necessary. At the time of the nominations, I was also very busy and unable to continue perusing Wikipedia. Just now I read the comments under the subject's page and the FPC Discussion page and I felt obliged to respond. In no way were my inactions intentional and I apologise for the delay in my responding and the inconvenience it catalysed. Thank You. -- AJ24 01:48, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Creek Page
Check out the Creek Page. Have replaced your sawmill pic with a historic pic. See what you think - placement, etc. --jjron 14:00, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Glad u like it. Do u think it's the best spot, e.g., I think it would be better actually in the history section (but then one of the 'aerial' shots would have to go)?
- Graeme gave me a few of the pics he used for the signs, there was a couple of others I have resized and was thinking of uploading which I can show you some time, but this seemed to fit the article best. --jjron 08:22, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Personally I would like a map in the info box (as most places have) to show where SC is either in Vic or Aust, but the one that was there was rubbish seeing as it was Melb. I have been wondering what to do with the aerials. I don't really want to lose any, because they're all different and good, but to me (as I think I've said before), it's too much to have three of them at the start of the article. The only other thing I can think of is to start a gallery for some of these extra pics (one of the aerials, the sawmill, the other historic ones, etc).
-
- Yeah, new Ensay ones are good, though I'm not sure about these 'stacked' panos. How would they go side by side at say 400px each? Perhaps another gallery is coming up there too? BTW, is it New Year (Year's?) Sports as you've said in the caption, or New Year's Day Sports as I've said in the article? --jjron 09:15, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- I was actually more querying the Day part which you haven't put in. Whichever it is, it should be consistent. I'll change them all to Day unless you find different. Another suggestion re GAR (refer to talk): replace, or add to, my little 'spectacular scenery' photo at the bottom with a smaller version of your FP pano (at say 500px). --jjron 09:45, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] FP delist closing procedure
I must confess that I'm a bit confused why you marked the Monopoly board as 'Keep' with a 9 delist to 6 keep vote... you have previously kept images with 15 keep and 10 delist votes. Either way, the majority position has a 150% support compared to the minority. If 15-10 is good enough to keep, then 9-6 should be enough to delist... or am I thinking about this wrong? Do you hold out for a 2/3 majority for delisting? --Dante Alighieri | Talk 19:03, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just a Question
I posted on the humanities help desk, and they said I should try asking you: "I'm considering buying three new lenses for my camera (one of the mid-upper tier of those big Nikon professional cameras), and I just wanted advice on which to get. I'm thinking zoom and microfocus lenses along with something else. Is a fisheye lense fairly useless? I like the way some of the pictures taken with it can turn out, but I'm looking for the most generally useful lenses. Is there any particular lense well suited to bokeh pictures? My current lense wont usually let me adjust the focus to the blur-to-clarity contrast that I'm looking for, and I certainly can't seem to get those interestingly pixelated blurred backrounds I've seen elsewhere (though some of that might be photoshoping.)"
Thanks so much. What I've seen of your pictures is great, and pretty damn impressive for a 16 (is it 17 now?) year old. I'm about to be 18 and I suck, but I hope to become a more serious photographer. Really, though, your pictures are fantastic, and some of the landscapes are taken from brilliant angles. Beyond impressive.

[edit] Image modification request
Hi Fir0002, I have a request for you to modify one of the images you've uploaded: Image:Sour dough loaves02.jpg is being used on Sourdough (of course), and there's a bit of controversy over the blur effect. The article is being constantly vandalized solely because of the blurring. The caption is being rewritten to read something about "loaves appearing on shelves at over 70mph" or some such. Any chance you could upload it without the blur effect? I've attempted to crop the blur out, but it's just not the same. The image is great otherwise, and it's an awesome addition to the article, but the vandalism is making me crazy! Thanks — Wwagner 18:24, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- [Copied from User Talk:Wwagner] How about this? Image:Sour dough loaves03.jpg It's not identical, as I couldn't be bothered trying to get the same post processing. But it's close enough. Yeah, they straighten it out a fair bit. The second one gets the roof more level, but at the expense of warping/leaning the sides, and I think even losing a tiny bit of the wall. So, not sure which is better. I'd almost say the first one for those reasons. Go ahead and replace it in the article if you want to. May have to get the original off you to replace my original. Well done. --jjron 06:19, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just Hi
Hi there, just want to greet my favorite photographer on Wikipedia. I also live in Melbourne, you know, (wait, you are live in Melbourne aren't you? haha) studying at RMIT, but I'm Indonesian. And because of that, I really like your Gamelan photo and would like to thank you that there is actually a featured image related to Indonesia. Okay, take care and happy taking pictures! Cheers -- Imoeng 18:26, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Salad Photo
Hi, I wanted to let you know that I made the background of your Salad picture transparent. How can I send this to you? BhaiSaab talk 21:17, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 85mm lens photo
Just a heads-up. As per the discussion on talk page for WP:FPC, your recent nomination was deemed Promoted against consensus. Accordingly, I have changed the closing to reflect this and it is not currently a Featured Picture. I trust you'll understand that this is nothing personal as I'm a big fan of your work, but based on the discussion on the talk page, the promotion was in error. --Dante Alighieri | Talk 16:34, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Question
Quick question for you. Can anyone promote a FPC to FP if the consensus is clear and the necessary amount of time has passed? --Hetar 20:33, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sunset stitch
The sunset looks fine now. The wavy line still puzzles me. Is that the result of some more intelligent stitch program than the one I use? And does that automatically adjust the histogram (assuming that's what it was) or did you do that by hand? I also thought that those two little dark clouds just to the left of it near the horizon were a clone artefact, but I suppose that's just a coincidence. The trees to the right of it look very similar too, which reinforced the impression. By the way, I never know where to react to a message on my talk page - there or at the other person's talk page. And now there is also the image talk page, both here at Wikipedia and at Wikimedia Commons, where any comments should really go. Very confusing. :) DirkvdM 07:34, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Pregnant woman scuplture.jpg
Hey Fir, just wondering if you have a less cropped image of this sculpture. It's terribly hard to get a sense of scale from this one, not to mention, what gives with the censorship? Can you imagine David from the waist up?! cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 10:11, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
