The correct title of this article is firefox2501. The initial letter is shown capitalized due to technical restrictions.

Well. Thanks for visiting this page. I don't expect a lot of hits here, but what ever.

But since you are here, I will let you know that the name firefox2501 pre-dates the Mozilla Firefox browser by about 10 years. Although I use Mozilla Firefox almost exclusively, the shared name is a coincidence.

The name is actually an amalgam of several technology related movies. The first is a Clint Eastwood movie released in 1982. Firefox is not my favorite movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it did feature a weapons console that was controlled by the pilot's thoughts. A man/machine interface where the humanity of the pilot is so obvious the he sometimes has difficulty controlling the aircraft.

The second part of the name comes from the movie Ghost in the Shell. The numbers 2501 are used throughout the movie, which also features a man/machine interface. However at this end of the spectrum, the interface is so transparent that the lead character questions her humanity.

Hence, firefox2501. Two ends of the man/machine interface spectrum.

And you thought it was just catchy!
