Chronicles of Pern: First Fall is the first collection of short stories completely about Pern. By Anne McCaffrey, it was first published in 1993.
Three of the short stories were published elsewhere, while two were first published in this collection. A second anthology, A Gift of Dragons, was published in 2002.
The first story covers the discovery of Pern and the commissioning of the colony. The remaining four stories are set after the events of Dragonsdawn, covering the desperate move north following the first fall of Thread, the founding of Ruatha by Red Hanrahan and the establishment of Benden Weyr. The fifth story explains how the colony was removed from the history books, isolating the planet from the rest of humanity.
