The First Zen Institute of America (FZIA) is a Rinzai Zen Buddhist monastery, the American branch of the Ryomokyo-kai temple in Tokyo, Japan. FZIA is located at 113 East 30th St. in New York City. The monastery has no Zen Master in residence and is open to the public on Wednesday evenings. Originally founded in 1930 by Sokei-an under the name The Buddhist Society of America, the name was changed in 1945 by Mary Farkas to Sokei-An's first choice.
