First War in Heaven

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In traditional Christian theology, Lucifer was once second in command to God. However, he lusted after God's position and wished to be first. He led a revolt against God and led as many as "one third" of the other angels. He lost and was banished to the Earth to roam until Judgment Day. His followers were the fallen angels and became demons and evil spirits. The Book of Revelation states that Lucifer and his followers will be banished to Hell forever.

[edit] Description of War in Heaven as Believed in Mormonism

The theological beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also include the “war in heaven” as a major event during the time before this earth was created or “organized”. According to LDS teachings, all of the spirit children of the Heavenly Father, including Lucifer and Yehovah, or Jesus the Christ, were present in the “pre-existence” when various council meetings were held to discuss, plan for, and learn of the purposes of the Eternal Most High in bringing about the Plan of Salvation for Almighty's spirit children. (Abraham 3:21-28, Abraham 4:1) This “war in heaven” was primarily a war of ideas, including the deception by Satan that Almighty's spirit children could progress toward eternal happiness without experiencing free agency in mortal life, and thus he would rule over them by forcing their behavior. This War continues on today in the battle between good (that which follows the Light of the Christ) and evil (that which leads to sinfulness, hatefulness or forced, coercive, addictive or destructive behavior by humankind).
