Firm science fiction

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Firm science fiction is a subgenre of science fiction that falls somewhere between hard science fiction and soft science fiction. Generally, it refers to a work of science-fiction which only includes elements that are theoretically possible (unlike soft science fiction) but also includes elements that are not immediately plausible (unlike hard science fiction). For example, firm science fiction would not generally include things like aliens that speak English or are distinguished from humans only by their pointed ears. Conversely, firm science fiction could include things like wormholes for interstellar travel and numerous populated planets.
