[edit] Personal life

Fiona is married to GMTV's Editor, Martin Frizell; it is believed by some that this is contributary to her retaining the role of co-presenter on GMTV. They have two sons, Nathanial, born 1999, and Mackenzie, born 2002. She is also well known for making many famous gaffes on the GMTV sofa, usually resulting in an embarrassed co-host having to cover for her comments.

[edit] Fiona under fire

She recently came under fire in the Scottish tabloids. Whilst in the wake of England winning the Rugby World Cup, the following conversation took place on GMTV:

  • Eamonn Holmes: Well it's a shame Scotland haven't won anything recently.
  • Fiona Phillips: Well no, they can't win anything can they?

On the June 8 Edition of GMTV Today, Fiona came under more fire.

  • Fiona Phillips: It says in the newspapers today that psychologists have found out why the Scottish aren't supporting England in the World Cup.
  • Andrew Castle: Really?
  • Fiona Phillips: Yeah, it says "They've blamed the deep rooted inferiority complex on our ingrained tribal culture"....too right.
  • Andrew Castle: Well, do you agree with us, or should I say Fiona?

On the June 15 Edition of GMTV Today, Fiona came under even more fire by saying the following.

  • Ben Shephard: Well, It's good that the Scots are invited to the Trinidad and Tobago Match.
  • Fiona Philips: Well, they're not invited because they actually have to win something to get to the World Cup.

On the December 5 Edition of GMTV Today, Fiona came under even more fire when reading the headlines. The weather came up, and she started talking about the Scots being unlucky.

There has been no apology from GMTV so far.

On Monday 15 May 2006, her mother died from alzheimer's. Because of this, she took a break from presenting GMTV. Her father Neville lives in Haverfordwest in Wales[1].
