Talk:Finnish national men's ice hockey team

Why there is Suomi-company (http://www.suomi-yhtio.fi/default.htm) ad in team logo?
Suomi is Finnish for Finland. Patken4 03:15, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
of course, but this "Suomi" text is paid ad! it is not national team's official logo.
- You're mistaken. "Sumoi" is not a paid text ad. It is the Finnish word for "Finland". It appears on the jerseys of the national team along with the "Finland"-capped golden lion. The link you quote above has little to do with "Suomi" as such; it is some random web page of some random Finnish company that just happens to use the word "Suomi" (which makes sense; Suomi being Finnish for Finland). You're wrong to delete the "Suomi" image from the national team's page. It is added information, graphically, of the native Finnish word for Finland. Mareklug talk 04:46, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

- I must say that there is a point in the original question whether Suomi is a paid ad or not, since I remember that this new kind of jersey started to first appear a couple of years ago soon after that very Suomi company started to sponsor the Finnish team, and the text on the jersey was only a minor deviation from actually having the company's logo as used in some practice matches etc. (Before that, the jersey simply had the word "SUOMI" in the central lion shield, and it didn't say "Finland" anywhere at all). However, the Suomi company obviously doesn't sponsor them anymore; at least it isn't even mentioned on the Finnish hockey association's website. (Logos of the current sponsors: http://www.finhockey.fi/info/yhteistyokumppanit/) So, I dare to say that if it ever was paid ad, it sure as hell isn't anymore. user:Ville Moilanen 03:43, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

- Suomi is neither a paid nor an unpaid ad. It's just the Finnish word for Finland. There has not been such a thing as "that very Suomi company" sponsoring the Finnish team. Simply, the Finnish team had Finland spelled out on their jersey in their own language! Now they have it in both English and Finnish. There has never been, to my knowledge, a commercial sponsor's name on the Finnish national jersey. -- Mareklug talk 14:41, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

- I am Finnish myself, and I clearly remember this as it was only a couple of years ago. Suomi company was sponsoring the team, and they had the biggest logo ad on Team Finland's non-IIHF jersey at the time. So, it is arguable that the usage of the text — or more precicely the font used — on the IIHF jersey, may or may have not have been paid by the company. I'm not claiming that they ever did, but I'm pointing out facts why it just might be so. Ville Moilanen 15:43, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
