Final Battle (ROH)

Final Battle is the annual year end event for Ring of Honor. In 2003 and 2005, ROH brought in wrestlers from Japan to compete against the ROH wrestlers.

[edit] Final Battle 2002
Final Battle 2002 took place on December 28, 2002 at the Murphy Recreation Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, PA.
- (Dark match) Samoa Joe defeated the Outcast Killaz in handicap match.
- (Dark match) The Prophecy (Christopher Daniels and Donovan Morgan) defeated the Ring Crew Express in a tag team match.
- (Dark match) Homicide defeated Jay Lethal.
- (Dark match) Jay Briscoe defeated Ace Steele.
- CM Punk defeated Colt Cabana to win a Ring of Honor contract.
- Simply Luscious defeated Alexis Laree.
- ”Lucha Libre gauntlet match”: Konnan defeated Chris Devine; Quiet Storm defeated Konnan.
- The ROH fans loudly chanted “Don’t come back!” at Konnan.
- This match was not featured on the Final Battle 2002 dvd. It was, however, later released on “ROH Uncensored”.
- Special K (Deranged and Angeldust defeated Da Hit Squad and The Backseat Boyz in a “Tag Team Scramble” match.
- ROH Tag Team Championship match: The Prophecy defeated The SAT to retain the titles in a 2 out of 3 falls match.
- Christopher Street Connection defeated The Carnage Crew by disqualification.
- The Christopher Street Connection kissed the Carnage Crew, who then beat up C.S.C. and the referee.
- Jody Fleisch defeated Amazing Red.
- Special K interfered in the match, helping Fleish to win.
- ROH Championship match: Xavier defeated Paul London to retain the title.
- Bryan Danielson vs. Low Ki vs. Samoa Joe vs. Steve Corino went to a 45 minute draw.
- Homicide was originally scheduled to be in the match, but was attacked by Steve Corino before the match began, and Corino took his place.
- The match was for the #1 contendership for the ROH Championship.
- While Steve Corino waited in the ring for Homicide, a few fans began to chant “Who booked this shit?” Steve Corino responded to them by saying “It doesn’t matter, we already got your money!”

Final Battle 2003 took place on December 27, 2003 at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory in Philadelphia, PA. ROH split the show into two parts, an all ROH half and a Ring of Honor vs. All Japan Pro Wrestling half, as well has holding a convention show in the afternoon. Final Battle 2003 also set a new attendance record for ROH with 1,500 fans.
Afternoon Show
- Sumie Sakai defeated Alison Danger.
- Josh Daniels defeated Puma.
- Christopher Street Connection vs. Ring Crew Express ended in a no contest when CM Punk interrupted the match.
- CM Punk defeated Mace of the Christopher Street Connection.
- The Carnage Crew (HC Loc, Tony DeVito and Justin Credible) vs. Special K ended in a no contest.
- The match was stopped by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission after Justin Credible began to bleed into the crowd.
- Trent Acid defeated Sonjay Dutt.
- ROH Tag Team Championship match: The Briscoe Brothers defeated The S.A.T. to retain the titles.
- The afternoon show was not released on the Final Battle 2003 dvd. It was, however, later released on “ROH Uncensored”.
ROH Evening Show
- Bryan Danielson defeated Jay Briscoe.
- John Walters defeated Xavier in a “Fight without Honor” match.
- Matt Stryker defeated BJ Whitmer to win the Field of Honor tournament.
- The tournament had been taking place throughout the fall of 2003. The wrestlers involved were: Matt Stryker, Xavier, Chris Sabin, John Walters, BJ Whitmer, Dan Maff, Colt Cabana and Jimmy Rave. Stryker, Xavier, Sabin and Walters competed in Block A of the tournament; Whitmer, Maff, Cabana and Rave competed in Block B.
- ROH World Championship: Samoa Joe defeated Mark Briscoe to retain the title.
Ring of Honor vs. All Japan
- Second City Saints (CM Punk and Colt Cabana) defeated Tomaoki Honma and Kazushi Miyamoto.
- AJ Styles defeated Kaz Hayashi.
- Satoshi Kojima defeated Homicide.
- Great Muta and Arashi defeated The Prophecy (Christopher Daniels and Dan Maff with Alison Danger).

Final Battle 2004 took place on December 26, 2004 at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory in Philadelphia, PA.
- Jimmy Jacobs defeated Trent Acid.
- Following the match, Acid got the on microphone and quit Ring of Honor.
- Lacey's Special K (Deranged and Lacey with Cheech and Cloudy) defeated Becky Bayless’ Special K (Azrieal and Becky Bayless).
- Rockin’ Rebel defeated Devon Moore.
- Homicide with Julius Smokes defeated Josh Daniels.
- ROH Pure Championship match: John Walters defeated Jimmy Rave to retain the title.
- After the match, Prince Nana offered Walters a spot in The Embassy, which Walters accepted.
- Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer defeated The Carnage Crew in a “Fight without Honor” match.
- Mick Foley and Ricky Steamboat cut promos on each other and ended their feud.
- Steamboat had signed on with the WWE.
- Jay Lethal defeated Prince Nana’s Weapon of Masked Destruction 2.
- Steve Corino and CM Punk with Tracy Brooks defeated Generation Next (Alex Shelley and Roderick Strong).
- Following the match, Austin Aries went to the ring to talk with Shelley. He reminded Shelley about Scramble Cage Melee when, after both he and Shelley said they were coming for Samoa Joe and the ROH World Championship, Shelley told him to remember where his loyalties lie. Aries said that while he has been going after the ROH World Championship and looking out for Generation Next, Shelley had been elsewhere taking care of “more important” business (working for TNA). Aries told Shelley before he took Samoa Joe’s spot later that night he was going to take Shelley’s spot as the leader of Generation Next. He gave Shelley five seconds to choose between stepping down or getting beaten down and handed him the microphone, but before Shelley could answer Aries attacked him. Roderick Strong pulled Aries off of Shelley and helped him get up, seaming to side with him, but turned around and gave him a backbreaker, kicking him out of Generation Next.
- Low Ki vs. Bryan Danielson ended in a no contest.
- The two wrestled to the lobby where Danielson was attacked by Homicide and Julius Smokes. Low Ki then went to the ring and demanded the referee name him the winner since Danielson left. When the referee refused, Low Ki knocked the referee out and choked him with a leather belt. Ring of Honor officials later changed the decision and disqualified Low Ki.
- ROH World Championship match: Austin Aries w/ Roderick Strong defeated Samoa Joe with Jay Lethal to win the ROH World Championship.
- Samoa Joe had held the title for 22 months.
- Samoa Joe showed respect to Aries by helping to strap the belt around his waist.
[edit] Final Battle 2005
Final Battle 2005 took place on December 17, 2005 at the Inman Sports Club in Edison, NJ. ROH brought in Naomichi Marufuji and KENTA from Pro Wrestling NOAH to compete in the show.
- Jimmy Rave with Prince Nana defeated Milano Collection AT.
- Colt Cabana defeated Azrieal.
- Following the match, Homicide, who had been in a violent feud with Cabana for the past several months, told Cabana he wasn’t there to fight him, he was there to kill Steve Corino (who Homicide had been feuding with since 2002), but if Cabana got in his was Homicide was going to kill him too.
- ROH Pure Championship match: Nigel McGuiness defeated Claudio Castagnoli by disqualification to retain the title.
- A second referee was placed on the outside to make sure McGuiness didn’t cheat. When the both referees were knocked down, McGuiness tried to hit Castagnoli with his trademark iron, but Castagnoli managed to get it away from McGuiness and used it to knock him out and score the pinfall. However, the outside referee saw him used the iron and reversed the decision.
- Alex Shelley with Prince Nana defeated Steve Corino.
- After the match, Homicide and Julius Smokes ran down to the ring and began to attack Corino. While Smokes continued to attack him, Homicide went and pulled a bottle of Draino from under the ring. Colt Cabana ran down and was able to push Corino out of the ring, but was attacked by Homicide and Smokes. While Smokes held him down, Homicide poured the bottle of Draino down Cabana’s throat. Cabana immediately began to throw up while ROH officials ran down to help get him to medical treatment.
- Jay Lethal defeated Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels (with Allison Danger) and BJ Whitmer (with Lacey (wrestler)) in a 4-corner survival match.
- Ricky Reyes defeated Davey Andrews.
- ROH Tag Team Championship match: Generation Next (Austin Aries and Roderick Strong defeated Tony Mamaluke and Sal Rinauro to win the ROH Tag Team Championship.
- ROH World Championship match: Bryan Danielson defeated Naomichi Marufuji to retain the title.
- GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship match: KENTA defeated Low Ki to retain the title.
- The GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship is from Pro Wrestling NOAH, where Low Ki had been competing for full time for the past year.
[edit] Final Battle 2006
Final Battle 2006 is scheduled for December 23 at the Manhattan Center in New York City, NY.
Scheduled matches for the event are:
- ROH World Championship match: Bryan Danielson vs. Homicide.
- If Homicide does not win the championship he will quit Ring of Honor.
- Chris Hero's farewell to Claudio Castagnoli
- This is Castagnoli's final appearance in Ring of Honor, as he is reporting to Ohio Valley Wrestling to begin working for the WWE.
- CIMA, Shingo and Matt Sydal vs. Austin Aries, Roderick Strong and Delirious.
- CIMA is visiting from Dragon Gate.
- Samoa Joe vs. Nigel McGuinness.
- Brent Albright and Jimmy Jacobs vs. BJ Whitmer and Colt Cabana.
- Christopher Daniels vs. Jimmy Rave vs. Davey Richards vs. El Generico in a four corners survival match.
