Final Battle (ROH)

Final Battle is the annual year end event for Ring of Honor. In 2003 and 2005, ROH brought in wrestlers from Japan to compete against the ROH wrestlers.

Final Battle 2002 took place on December 28, 2002 at the Murphy Recreation Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, PA.

Final Battle 2003 took place on December 27, 2003 at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory in Philadelphia, PA. ROH split the show into two parts, an all ROH half and a Ring of Honor vs. All Japan Pro Wrestling half, as well has holding a convention show in the afternoon. Final Battle 2003 also set a new attendance record for ROH with 1,500 fans.

Final Battle 2004 took place on December 26, 2004 at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory in Philadelphia, PA.

  • Jimmy Jacobs defeated Trent Acid.
    • Following the match, Acid got the on microphone and quit Ring of Honor.
  • Lacey's Special K (Deranged and Lacey with Cheech and Cloudy) defeated Becky Bayless’ Special K (Azrieal and Becky Bayless).
  • Rockin’ Rebel defeated Devon Moore.
  • Homicide with Julius Smokes defeated Josh Daniels.
  • ROH Pure Championship match: John Walters defeated Jimmy Rave to retain the title.
  • Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer defeated The Carnage Crew in a “Fight without Honor” match.
  • Mick Foley and Ricky Steamboat cut promos on each other and ended their feud.
    • Steamboat had signed on with the WWE.
  • Jay Lethal defeated Prince Nana’s Weapon of Masked Destruction 2.
  • Steve Corino and CM Punk with Tracy Brooks defeated Generation Next (Alex Shelley and Roderick Strong).
    • Following the match, Austin Aries went to the ring to talk with Shelley. He reminded Shelley about Scramble Cage Melee when, after both he and Shelley said they were coming for Samoa Joe and the ROH World Championship, Shelley told him to remember where his loyalties lie. Aries said that while he has been going after the ROH World Championship and looking out for Generation Next, Shelley had been elsewhere taking care of “more important” business (working for TNA). Aries told Shelley before he took Samoa Joe’s spot later that night he was going to take Shelley’s spot as the leader of Generation Next. He gave Shelley five seconds to choose between stepping down or getting beaten down and handed him the microphone, but before Shelley could answer Aries attacked him. Roderick Strong pulled Aries off of Shelley and helped him get up, seaming to side with him, but turned around and gave him a backbreaker, kicking him out of Generation Next.
  • Low Ki vs. Bryan Danielson ended in a no contest.
    • The two wrestled to the lobby where Danielson was attacked by Homicide and Julius Smokes. Low Ki then went to the ring and demanded the referee name him the winner since Danielson left. When the referee refused, Low Ki knocked the referee out and choked him with a leather belt. Ring of Honor officials later changed the decision and disqualified Low Ki.
  • ROH World Championship match: Austin Aries w/ Roderick Strong defeated Samoa Joe with Jay Lethal to win the ROH World Championship.
    • Samoa Joe had held the title for 22 months.
    • Samoa Joe showed respect to Aries by helping to strap the belt around his waist.

[edit] Final Battle 2005

Final Battle 2005 took place on December 17, 2005 at the Inman Sports Club in Edison, NJ. ROH brought in Naomichi Marufuji and KENTA from Pro Wrestling NOAH to compete in the show.

Final Battle 2006 is scheduled for December 23 at the Manhattan Center in New York City, NY.
