Fimreite

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fimreite is a place in Sogn Norway. It was on the fjord near Fimreite that the final battle between King Magnus, and the later King Sverre, stood. On June 15, 1184 Sverre attacked Magnus's fleet of skip, and in the traditional way, the kings ships were tied together, thus making it one big fleet. Sverre then charged on one ship, making the kings men jump to the next. Because of the weight, the boats sank, and one after the other the ships flooded. With this original thinking Sverre gained the victory. Magnus died and Sverre became the sole sovereign.
