Filiocht, chaos has broken out around a VfD regarding the above, and I see you speedied it on May 6, so I'm wondering if you can help fill in what happened and suggest a course of action. Apparently it was deleted for copyvio in March (though there was also a VfD; I don't know why). Someone recreated it, and it again went up for VfD. As this second VfD was in progress, an editor put the speedy tag on it on March 6, and you deleted it a few hours later, even though the VfD was on-going. I'm assuming you did that because you discovered it was another copyvio. So my first question is: is that right? Was it another copyvio?

After you deleted it, someone recreated it on May 7, this time not as a copyvio, and it was again put up for VfD, it's third.

And so the question now is: should the second VfD votes (the VfD that was in progress when you deleted) be counted toward this third VfD, or should we start from scratch with a new, third vote? If you could add your opinion to Wikipedia talk:Votes for deletion/Brandenn Bremmer, that would be very helpful. The day job has started to interfere, and also there are things on the Italian Wiki I want to do, and there is just not the time to do all I want to, besides which I've rather written myself out here, and lost the inspiration, besides which I'm forgetting how to speak my own language, I shall look in often to see whats going on, and revert any edits on my pages I don't agree with, which will be most of them, I always have to have the last word! Your message reminded me: Are you really sure about citing Cubism as an analogy for Imagism? I recognise that most Cubist work focusses on a single object but it explores that object by unifying a multiplicity of images. It is my understanding that Imagism looks directly at the single object of its focus. Having given this some consideration, I can see no real parallel between Imagism and the contemporary visual arts movements: Symbolism is too allusive; Impressionism too holistic; Expressionism too distorting. The closest that I can find lies in the Zen Buddhist artistic tradition but that is hardly contemporary (by some 800 years) and Super-realism (decades too late). --Theo (Talk) 13:38, 18 May 2005 (UTC)

Now that I understand just why you want to allude to Cubism, I think that you should do so in a sentence divorced from "an attempt at isolating a single image to reveal its essence", which is the core of Imagism. In effect the ethos of both movements may be the same but the implementation is quite different. Imagism isolates its object; Cubism synthesises a single image from multiple perspectives. Not that anyone asked me, but I think I'm the harebrain who thought that analog up in this context. What I was emphasizing is that both a) were rejections of the narrative inherent in mimetic perspective and lyric poetry; b) sought, frankly, noumena: Pound's "make it new" and the Cubist effort to present the soul of a thing by phenomenologically surrounding it with all possible perspectives were both attempts at freeing the thingness of the thing from its temporal (your life is events, and objects appear in time in portraiture, allegory, and lyric poetry) context; c) were explict rejections of what both movements saw as bourgeoise art. One thesis on Modernism is that WW1 really got people furious at the Hegelian notion of "civilization," as they thought that civilization had led inexorably to the gas attacks. They therefore wanted to kill the bourgeoise "civilization" in hopes of finding a new, perhaps even non-teleological (depends on which brand of Modernism), art. Geogre 15:18, 19 May 2005 (UTC)

Sigh ... and now I learn that FAC has a one week deadline from start; I thought it was one week from date of last unresolved objection. Ho hum. So FAC can fail if someone objects and then disappears. Mutter. Grumble. I do not know how to make this process work. RFC is not reliable: I got very few comments there; it looks like one has to simply get it right first time. More muttering. Dcfleck has done a fine job on copyediting one section and plans to do more. I am having a real problem getting my head round the conflict between Michal Snow's suggestion that the article looks like puffery whilst others say that it does not make a strong enough case for what is special about the man. I think that the problem may be that Helvarg has only really attracted adverse criticism from one quarter (Wise Use). By and large he appears to have mobilised activists without goading their opponents. I will tinker with it again when Dcfleck has finished his polishing. I might try to help out. I've only got a copy of the Inferno. And that's the only part I've read. It is a verse translation and introduction by Allen Mandelbaum (Bantam 1980). Thanks for reviewing the article, I definitely agree on adding some Legacy. Your idea about linking Cavalvcanti to modern English poetry doesn't sound bad at all, please go ahead! I have seen you have reduced spaces, and that there is no separation between the sonnet and its translation. Maybe we might add the translation to the right rather than below? Awsome! We saved space and it looks real neat! I think the Legacy should be concise, but richer in links. I might add a more complete list of Guido Cavalcanti's works. I'm working on Donna me prega right now. Philosophy of love? Fascinating. We can start with casuistry but there are so many authors... we should make selection. I may work on the 14th - 17th centuries, and perhaps you might do romanticism & modernism in the Legacy? Just an idea... I have seen you're adding refences to modernism. Found something in the Waste Land? I've squeezed in the titles of GC's most important works. However, the translations I have provided between parantheses do not necessarily match the titles by which they're known. But I think they may be more literal. Very true. I would say he's neither as well. Godot's tricky though...there are a number of references to the French countryside, French currency, and (that most Frankish of symbols) the Eifel Tower. However, that doesn't necessarily make it a French play...Vladimir and Estragon have a distinctly Irish feel (despite their names). It's probably best not to categorize Beckett by nationality. He kind of rises above that sort of thing...he's such a world figure.

Hi Filiocht, I'd like to continue our discussion of the format of the Cantos list outside of the context of the featured list candidates page, if you don't mind. I guess my first question is, do you have any problems with the formatting of the two examples I posted in the talk page? If so, what are they, and if not, do you feel that other entries might not fit this format well? If so, which ones? I hope I'm not harping on this issue too much, but as I've said before, I think that if this list is organized consistently, it will be a more accesible and valuable resource. (I'm busy with admin tasks for a few days (ban! zap! blam boom!) and you guys sink to featuring lists and creating polls about the names of Eyetalian provinces? Wiki at its most exciting.) Filiocht, when I saw your list of cultural references in the Cantos on Wikipedia:Featured list candidates, the spirit of emulation made me go look for my own literary list, List of books with the subtitle Virtue Rewarded. But it had gone missing--look at that redlink! :-( I seem to remember, vaguely, that it keeps doing that. :-( I was thinking it might have made a good Featured List. It hasn't been deleted AFAIK, but it might have been moved. Excuse me, sir, did somebody hand it in at the desk? It had Richardson's Pamela on it, and Colley Cibber's Love's Last Shift, and, well, several other books. I do think it's comprehensive, as I've checked the LOC, and there simply aren't any more books in existence with "virtue rewarded" as part of the title. I have several ideas for the image, that can definitely be arranged. And it's accurate all right, nursed with the full bishonen pedantry, though I'm not the sole contributor by any means. Thanks, Fil, I was hoping my list would make you think "quality" and "high culture"! Now for the criteria... it doesn't have a lead section or references yet, but they shouldn't be hard to supply . Here's a question: a reference section that duplicates the list itself would have a certain logic about it, but no real usefulness. What do you think of an annotated reference section, or one that includes secondary sources? (And of starting a "Featured References" category? (Featured Footnote! There's a page for the userspace! I don't know when you get back, but if you get a chance, please take a look at User:Spangineer/newfeatures, preferably sometime before about 18:00 UTC tomorrow. Also, please let me know if I'm coming across as heavy handed in this discussion—I realized that right after I unilaterally asked that your Cantos list be organized, I began spouting off on what the FLC requirements should be. I tend to speak my mind once I'm fairly sure of myself, and I hope that I'm being helpful and not a nuisance. As for the organization of your list, if you take a look at the first sentence of my personality profile following the quote, you might understand better where I'm coming from. I love organizing things if I think it will make them easier to use, so if you approve of one of the organization patterns I propsed, I'll do the organizing work and try to bother you as little as possible. Hi - something strange happened when you promoted Ohio - the text appeared in the Birds of North America sub-page...

All of the nominations are now transcluded onto WP:FLC, so you can just remove the {{Wikipedia:Features list candidates/whatever}} on FLC and copy that line to the promoted or failed archive, instantly copying the text - there is no need to blank the sub-page (indeed, that is bad, as {{FL}} and {{FLCfailed}} both link directly to the sub-page).
