Film Dialog

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Film Dialog (sometimes spelled "Film Dialogue") is a band consisting of Maggie Jones (vocals), Ryan Harper (piano/vocals/guitar), and Benjamin Pesetsky (cello). The band met in July, 2004 at the Interlochen Center for the Arts where they recorded their EP and gave a free concert on Opera Field. The band is not signed to a major record label, though their EP was well received by the community.

The trio is an alternative rock band with a mostly acoustic sound. The bulk of their songs make extensive use of the piano and cello, with interesting melodies and witty lyrics. A few songs feature other instruments, including a trumpet, clarinet, and saxophone.

The band has been separated since they left Interlochen, as they do not have each other's contact information. A few of the band members have tried to get in touch with each other, but poor management has rendered these attempts useless. Though some fans see this as proof that the band will not have a reunion, others take seriously a rumor that singer Ryan Harper's numerologist told him that the members of the band will run into each other at a party in New York in 2024.

[edit] The EP

Film Dialog has only one recording to date, entitled simply EP. Several different versions exist, with differing track listings and artwork. Most differences involve the last song, "Future Vision Part II". Some copies don't include this song at all, while others title it "Future Vision Part I". Copies also exist with a hidden track after the last song. This track doesn't appear to be performed by Film Dialog at all — it was probably produced on a synthesizer.

The EP has been distributed person to person, mostly for free. Although a few original copies exist, the EP is most commonly found as "bootleg" versions burned by third parties. It is possible that this was intended by the band, which would suggest the music is under a free license.

Some attempts have been made by organizations such as action4democracy to sell the EP as a fundraiser. It is unclear whether these groups are affiliated with the band. Many of the tracks have also appeared on file sharing networks.
