Fieldfare Cabin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fieldfare cabin is a shelter in the Tafjord mountains of Norway, at the northern shore of the lake Heimste Veltdalsvatnet. Its place is very remote. It takes two or tree days by foot on rough ground to get there. The cabin was build by the sabotage team of Joachim Rønneberg, dropped from England during World War II. They used it as a shelter for more than a year during their sabotage actions. It was build with the over-stock of materials used for the civil constructions on Heimste Veltdalsvatnet, which were built in the thirties. Actually these man were the engineers of this lake-regulating project. They must have been very acquainted with the terrain.
This hidden cabin is situated under an over hanging rock, to protect it from aircraft discovery. Some years ago it is renovated and today open to the public.
