Howard Roark. Architect in novel and film The Fountainhead. Published in 1943 and a cult movie made in 1949. This is a story of an architect, Howard Roark and his struggle to establish himself against the more sucessful, Peter Keating, and the universal struggle to have visionary ideas when the media and rivals want to tear you down. The book's subtext explores the strength of the individual, the tug between good and evil and the threat of fascism. Enduring fascination for British architects today to think the profession once had status. Watch out for big buildings then and now. Played in the film by Gary Cooper with Patricia Neal.
