Ferdinando Stanhope

Ferdinando Stanhope was born at Shelford Manor. He was the fourth son of Philip Stanhope, 1st Earl of Chesterfield and his wife Catherine, daughter of Lord Hastings. He was colonel of the King's Horse, and was felled during the Battle of Bridgeford, England in the fighting which ensued there in the year 1643. He was a Royalist in his beliefs, fighting for the King. He was laid to rest at Shelford church among his ancestors.
