Well, not only is it called "blatnoi yazyk" but also "blatnaya muzyka" - literally "criminal music" which expression might have some relation to the use of the work "chirikat'" - to chirp - as a form of talking, chatting. (Talking as a bird's singing in one case, or as simply music in the other.) Hi There 21:37, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling mistake, surely

The following is from the article: Ропа кимать, полумеркот, рыхло закурещат ворыханы." Normative Russian: "Пора спать, полночь; скоро запоют петухи."

"Ропа" is the first sentence is surely a mistake, whereas is it properly "Пора" in the second. I am sure that the transposition of the consonants in the first sentence is not thieves' cant but rather a mere typo and will correct it on this assumption. Hi There 21:43, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

That typo(?) is present even in Dahl's dictionary: http://vidahl.agava.ru/cgi-bin/dic.cgi?p=3&t=633 (the very end of article). saimhe 12:21, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

I have a copy of Dahl lying around here somewhere and I will find it and see what it is. It is possible, after all, that the page to which you refer has been incorrectly transcribed, so we shall see. As of me, it is much useful and easier to read Czech and Polish text, rather their "Ropa Kimat'" ... even thought I am native Russian speaker, and prefer to be intelligent.
