Fender Twin Reverb
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fender Twin Reverb is an all-tube Guitar Amplifier made by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. The Twin Reverb is frequently shortened in conversation to 'Fender Twin,' or simply 'Twin.' The Twin Reverb is an iconic product for Fender, and their most popular amplifier. The amplifier has been in production since 1953, longer than even the Stratocaster guitar. While changes have been made in cosmetics and features, the basic design has remained consistent: a pair of 12" speakers driven by a built-in amplifier. Most of the models made after 1960 are rated at 80-100 watts of output power, with the earliest 'tweed' models rated at far less, and late-1970s models topping out at 135 watts. The amplifier has consistently used a 12ax7 pre-amplifer design driving a 6L6 output section, and this tube contingent has become synonymous with a Fender-type sound.
The so-called 'blackface' era of Fender Amplifiers, made from 1965-67, are considered to be the archetypal iteration of the model, due to changes phased in after the acquisition of Fender by the CBS corporation. The current production model of the Twin Reverb is a replica of a circa 1965 model, with corresponding cosmetics and replica Jensen Speakers.
The Fender Twin Reverb is considered a standard model for players seeking a clean sound, and it is especially known for the quality of its built-in spring reverb.
