Fenchurch Street

Fenchurch Street is a road in the City of London in London, United Kingdom.

The road links Aldgate at its eastern end with Lombard Street and Gracechurch Street to the west. To the south of Fenchurch Street and towards its eastern end is Fenchurch Street railway station. The entire length of the road is served by London Buses route 40.

Already the site of several tall buildings including Plantation Place, it is planned to be the location of a further skyscraper at 20 Fenchurch Street.

At 71 is Lloyd's Registry, when the annual journal Lloyds Register of Shipping is published. The earlier building was built in 1901 by Thomas Edward Collcutt (1840-1924). It faces onto Fenchurch Street and is a Grade II* listed building. The more modern building was designed by Richard Rogers and towers over it. It was completed in 1999. It was a RIBA award winner 2002.

The junction with Lime Street was formerly the location of a Wren church, St Dionis Backchurch. It was demolished in 1878. An earlier church of St Dionis on this site was mentioned c 1198.
