Felliscliffe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Felliscliffe is a civil parish in North Yorkshire, in Nidderdale. It is an ancient Nidderdale township, first mentioned in the Domesday Book as 'Fyle's gyffe', later, 'Felagh's cliff' from the Old Norse.
It is about four miles south-west of Ripley and seven miles from Knaresborough and is situated in the parish of Hampsthwaite outside the spa town of Harrogate.
The village served the nearby Fountains Abbey with Flax, with monastery paths leading along Tang Beck - a tributary of the River Nidd - still in existence. Traces of Iron Age and Roman settlements have been discovered in the parish, indicating that it has been inhabited continuously for several millennia.
