Federal Prison Industries, Inc.

Also referred as UNICOR (short for UNIque CORporation),[1] the Federal Prison Industries, Inc. is a wholly owned government corporation that provides work opportunities and job training to inmates of the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons. The program requires no federal funding because its sales, mostly to government agencies, cover all of its costs. In the 2005 fiscal year it employed over 19,000 inmates and had net sales of $765 million.[2]
