The Federal National Council (Majlis Watani Ittihad) is the legislature of the United Arab Emirates. The Council has 40 members appointed by the rulers of the constituent states to serve two-year terms, with only advisory tasks.

In September 2006, George W. Bush said, "The United Arab Emirates recently announced that half of the seats in its Federal National Council will be chosen by elections." [1]

The first election to it will be held in December 2006. [2]
