Federal City

The term Federal City (German Bundesstadt) is the title for the cities of Bonn, Germany, and Bern, Switzerland. Since April 28, 1994, it establishes Bonn as the second official residence of the Federal President, Federal Chancellor, Bundesrat (upper house) and the first official residence of six federal ministries and about 20 federal authorities.

It is also the official title of Bern as the capital of Switzerland. Historically, Washington, D.C., was called the “Federal City” too.
