Feasting on Asphalt

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Feasting on Asphalt is a show starring Alton Brown of the Food Network TV show Good Eats.

Alton's third series, a limited run series entitled Feasting on Asphalt, explores the history of eating on the move. In a quest to find "good eats" across the country, Alton Brown embarks on a transient mission via motorcycle ("As far as I’m concerned, there’s no better way to experience the road than from the back of a bike," according to Brown) to find tasty edibles on the go in a 4-part series about the history of road food. Alton will sample food all along his travel route, often sleeping under the stars between meals. In his traditional style, he'll include the usual "history of food" segments documenting famous road trips (from the Odyssey to the Crusades, to Lewis and Clark, and Jack Kerouac) and interviews with many of the "foodies" he meets en route.

Alton suffered a motorcycle crash during the filming of the Nevada segment. His only injury was a broken clavicle, which will heal properly. This injury was caught on camera and is supposed to be shown in episode 4 (Alton posted on his website that "it was a low charisma event. No flames, no smoke ... just a lot of dust and discomfort..")

Alton begins his trip in Mt. Pleasant, SC, then winds his way through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and then to the California coast.

The series premiered on Food Network on July 29, 2006, with subsequent episodes airing the following 3 Saturdays (August 5, 12 and 19), also at 9:00 PM EST/PST.

[edit] Motorcycles and Gear

In the series, Alton Brown is seen riding a 2005 BMW R1200RT touring motorcycle, with a number of farkles. He wears a variety of gear including textile jackets or suits made by BMW, Aerostich, and Bates, and Aerostich "Combat Touring" boots. His web site lists his motorcycle and camping gear, much of it procured from Aerostich[1]. His motorcycle was purchased used from a BMW dealer and has made prior appearances on Good Eats![2]
