[edit] Feakle Festival 2006

The 19th Annual Feakle International Traditional Music Festival Weekend 2006 - was once again a resounding success. Held over 5 days from the 10th - 14th August. Feakle was a mecca for music lovers. People from Argentina, Czech Republic, Japan, Italy, USA, Australia,South Africa, and Europe joined the huge number of Irish visitors who made Feakle their home for the entire week. History was made on Friday night when Feakle Church was packed to capacity resulting in over 150 people being unable to obtain tickets for what turned out to be a wonderful evening of music & song. Gary Pepper, Chairperson of the Festival Committee told the website that all official events including workshops, ceilis, concerts, and recitals were completely sold out. In a year where tourism is considered to be in decline this was a very satisfactory reversal of trends. The Committee were extremely happy with the quality of people present. Mindfull that Festivals can on occassions be hijacked by elements with no cultural interests at heart, it was especially gratifying to witness the happiness that the festival brought to so many people.
