FC Universitate Riga
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
FC Universitate Riga is a former Latvian football club that was based in Riga. They played their home games at the Latvijas Universitates Stadions.
They were founded in 1988 as RAF Jelgava, a works team from the Rīgas Autobusu Fabrika factory in Jelgava. However, when that plant ran into financial difficulties, the team received new sponsorship from the University of Latvia in 1996 and, as a result, changed their name and relocated to Riga. [1] They folded after the 1997 season. FK Rīga might be considered a successor, as they now play in Universitate's former LU Stadium.
