FC Baia Mare is a Romanian football club, based in Baia Mare, Maramureş County, northern Romania. As of the 2006–2007 season, they will play in Romanian Liga II (Romanian second league) after being promoted from Divizia C at the end of the 2005-06 season.
The club was founded in 1946. The team plays at Dealul Florilor Stadium (capacity 15,500), which hosted big names of European football such as Real Madrid and Steaua Bucharest.
The club has the nickname of Mineru' (The Miner), because of the mining industry which developed in Baia Mare and the rest of Maramureş during the last century. Minerul (or Mineru' by word of mouth) is also an old name of the team, the one which is the most loved by the supporters.

The team played mainly in Romanian Divizia B. FC Baia Mare is ranked the first in an all-time standing of Divizia B, having the most games played and most points.
In 1982-83 FC Baia Mare played in Cup Winners' Cup against Real Madrid coached then by Alfredo Di Stéfano. After 0 : 0 in the first leg, FC Baia Mare lost 5 : 2 in the second leg. Koller and Buzgău scored for the Romanian side on Santiago Bernabeu.
In the summer of 1982, FC Baia Mare played a friendly game against AC Fiorentina in Italy and won 3 : 1. Back then for Fiorentina played Giancarlo Antognoni and Francesco Graziani, both world champions with Italy at the 1982 World Cup, Daniel Bertoni and Daniel Passarella, both world champions with Argentina 1978 World Cup. This is maybe the greatest achievement of FC Baia Mare.
